Krauser Panniers

Hi all. I'm looking for som advise (instructions) on how to fit these Krauser panniers. They came with the bike but the previous owner didn't fit them so he doesn't know.


Can anyone assist?

Hmm, those frames look different from other Krauser frames that I've seen before... I think someone else will have to help you, but basically, the metal tabs on the rectangular frames goes at the back, and the latch at the rear or the panniers clips onto the tab.   I would assume that the long metal bars with the curved/bend ends attach somewhere along the lower part of the rectangular frames to the bolt on the bike frame just ahead of the passenger footpeg.  The other bits must attach the rectangular frames at some offset from the subframe rails along the lower edge of the seat in some fashion..   Sorry - this is very generalized..

You might have to spread that picture around the internet a little bit.  I am at a loss.  I think it would take someone that has experience with these mounts to be able to help you.

Boxerworks, advrider and BMWMOA (probably have to be a member to post, there).

Also, the German site http://kleineboxer.de/forum/ , which is all in German, but many members speak English, if you can fight your way through the registration process!

Good luck.  I recommend you play around with them, keeping your mind open and your imagination engaged.

This just in - not much, but it MAY give you a start.  It is possible that these mounts won't even fit a BMW 'R' model...

I'll have a look at some bikes with panniers. (I used to use the "throw over" vinyls.)

I should be able to nut something out. I certainly can't see that anything there is meant for this bike though. Seems to be a lot of "bodgie" stuff.

The baggage systems for the R65 are pretty much R65 specific, won't fit anything else in the BMW lineup .

OK, I got into it this evening armed only with the imagination suggested by Rob. Most parts don't appear to have any resemblance to anything that would affix the Krausers to the Bike. Anyway, I've got some ideas; there's a metal loop under the pod that looks like it's part of the original machine that will be very handy for the insertion of threaded rod with a rubber grommit to support the upper section of a frame. I still need to support the lower sectiion but reluctant to drill the plastic frames where they weren't designed to be drilled. Some clamping might be needed there.
Anyway, another problem appeared with the bottom hinge on one of the panniers snapped. It looks like the hinge was probably polypropylene which doesn't fatigue with use that's eventually fatigued with use. A metal piano hinge fitted internally should fix that.
I'll see how I go & report.  8-)

Yes, that metal loop at the extreme end of the subframe is meant for mounting pannier mounts and/or a luggage rack.

My pannier mounts mount there, at the shock mounts, and near the passenger footpegs.

Did you see the pictures on Duane's page for the Universal A-mounts?

So what I have should somehow, make sense. I'll check again with new eyes tomorrow.

You have the dreaded "universal" mounting kit that came with aftermarket generic Krausers.  If you have good metal fabrication skills they can be adapted but the best bet is to watch flea-bay, ibmwr.org, etc., for an R65 specific set of mounts.

I had an original set which i stupidly sold, those frames similar but the mounts were definitely different and there was a cast rear rack.
The bottom mounts had a snug curve around the Shocks.

I think I'll put this on the back burner & enjoy the bike. I've purchased a set of RJays saddle bags that cost $89 that slip under the seat and joined by velcro. I might add a bit of extra security but if I want to go away for a weekend, I'm sure they'll do the trick.

I'm kicking myself though for missing a back rack on e-bay for an LS for about $80 (US & Oz $ are at about parity at present). Anyway, time I hit the road & stopped mucking about.   Thanks for your help, though. I will sort it out though because it's there to be sorted.

can't help you with the mounts, but...ummm.... can I ask you about the neat looking surface that the bag is sitting on?  Is it designed to have dirt between the concrete posts (?) and grass growing all over it?  I'm kinda liking the idea.....grass driveway with some solid concrete supports....very cool!!!

Theve used that for years on parking area around here, they now have a similar thing around play areas with rubber (reconstitued tyres) moulded blocks  with grass between instead of concrete.

The  "open" paving system is also available in the USofA. A local cosmic church has this paving technique in their small parking lot. Permits water to soak into the under soil area rather than creating run-off problems or ponding.

Yep, they come in squares & quite common here in Oz. You can get grass over it. It's a bugger to put the side stand (or main) on though.
