New version of little Guzzi for 2009
« on: December 03, 2008, 06:06:11 AM »
A new version of the V7 Classic, called the V7 Cafe is coming to the UK in March 2009, apparently.  A significant price rise however.

I am assuming that you will be able to stipulate the dual seat as they have left the pillion pegs on?

Nice enough though.

Yes, very nice indeed !

A couple nights ago I was looking at the Guzzi websites for the US, Canada, and several in Europe.  It seems that everywhere ELSE have the better/more interesting models for sale, versus what we have to choose from here in the US.  Maybe it is a bit of the "grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" syndrome,
but in this case, I am not so sure.

What a novel concept Guzzi and Triumph have, produce motorcycles that actually look like motorcycles!

I am not sure, as it is early days yet, but there seems to be an indication that this version of the bike will command a £1000 mark up over the original Classic.

I for one, would rather go for the orginal.  Which seems a little perverse as I am a cafe racer fanatic.   And I would rather have the dual seat, whatever.  And a 'Black S3' paint job.

But perhaps its a personalisation thing?  I would want to be the one who makes thet decision on what changes I would want to make.

Perhaps its also because I already have a Cafe Racer?

Its academic anyway as I refuse to take the hit with depreciation.  So I will be waiting for a second hand one!

Another rather under-appreciated bike with 650cc from a ~25 years ago was the Guzzi Lario - or at least taht was the model name over on this side of the pond.   It was a more or less direct competitor to the R65LS with its more angular, mini-fairing styling..  Like the LS, harder to personalize than a more naked bike, but I'd gladly take one if Santa wanted to drop one off at my house !

It was the Lario over here as well.  But you do not see many around.  Seems to have been reserved for the wives of the Le-mans owners.

You see far more Monza's.  Supposed to handle very well.  But the finish could not stay the distance in the UK with our salty roads and rain.

I looked at one a couple of years ago, after admiring them from afar.  But when I went to see the one in question at a local dealer, it was 'not quite the ticket'.  Overpriced project if I ever saw one - needed a full strip and paint.   And the instruments and switch gear seemed to be a bit 'Micky Mouse'.

Never been that struck on the styling of the 80's/90's Guzzi's - later Sp's and Le-Mans's were ruined.  I do like the T3/S3 and the Mk1 Le-mans.  I thought the Monza would have been another contender for a Cafe Racer, instead of my R65, but I would have been throwing even more away than I did on my cafe racer!  And I stumbled across an R65 first.

It was not till they bought in the V11 and the 1100 Sport that I started to look at Guzzi's again.  Took a V11 out for a test drive, and was the nearest I ever have been to signing on the dotted line for a new bike - for the original green/red V11.  But the dealer insulted me on my trade in and we could not close the deal.  Had £7000 in my pocket and he could not see himself clear to pick it - Muppet.  It does not happen often - and hasn't happened since - new bathroom then!

Hey ho!

Here ya go, Steve, there are a couple folks on this side of the pond with some very highly polished original V7 Sports from the 70's for sale on flea-bay.
Verra verra nice looking, but the price they want I think is a bit over the top given our economic situation... well, maybe some rich european will buy them!

The green bike is very nice.  But the red one... :-/...Well if you have a red frame and a red tank an panels, then the last thing you need is a red saddle!  Too much red!

I have a red frame and red tank - sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. I have a black seat and ally mudguards....

Niether of the made their reserves though, so a rethink is in order by  the current owner!
