Looking for a new front disc, but seems that motobins is out of stock. Â Any suggestions on where to buy one that doesnt cost an arm and a leg?
There is an Italian firm who sell rotors only on fleabay at an almost reasonable price.
An Australian firm "Metalgear" make a superb rotor, but they are profiteers, charging more than double for BMW kit over what they charge for rotors for other makes.
Anyone with a lathe, a drill and indexing chuck and a blanchard grinder or surface sander could make rotors for you - this will work providing their hourly rate is not too high, there is over an hour's work in making a replica of BMW's rotor,, about 35 minutes if you will accept solid rotors and somewhere in between if the person making them has a mill and cuts slots instead of drilling holes in the rotor face. If this is even remotely an option for you, let me know and I'll post photos of my self made cast iron rotors.
If I was doing this today I'd use stainless steel, probably by adapting a rotor from something else and removing metal as required. If you want I can also post a photo of a replacement rotor I made in a really big hurry about 30 years ago - about to head off on a big ride and noticed that the rear rotor on the R100 was cracked. I adapted a RD400 rotor in about 45 minutes and it worked perfectly - with pre-worn pads, If I had taken more time I would have thinned it up a bit so that new pads would have fitted, but I was in a hurry.....
