GOOB's
« on: August 22, 2012, 03:40:12 PM »
Well leave it to Monte to come up with a good one.  He's been sick as a dawg for about 2 weeks now and finally beginning to make a comeback.  Me, I'm having my right knee replaced next Monday.  So he mentioned to me in an email this morning that we were two Geezers On Old Beemers.  That would make us GOOB's for sure.

In the hierarchy of things I always figured you had to be at least 55 years old to be a Coot, 60 years to be a Geezer, 65 to be a Codger, and at least 70 to be a Curmudgeon although that is open to debate.  And one more thing, you can be an Old Fart at any age. ;D

I'm honored to have attained "Coot" status.  Not sure about "Old Fart" status.

Im still pre-Coot myself  (whew!)

Hopefully not an old fart either, but I suppose that my nieces and nephews may disagree with me on that.

BP,

Good luck with your surgery.  It's been about a year and a half since my total right knee replacement.  Give yourself a good 10-12 months for full recovery. You'll be walking within 4-12 hours post-op.  Prepare yourself for a painful 1-2 months.  Take your pain meds!  Important to take them at the prescribed interval, not only when the pain get's difficult to tolerate.  Follow through with your rehab and work hard - the results are worth the effort. After that - look forward to a new life with absolutely NO pain.  It's the best thing I've ever done for myself.  Best of luck with your surgery, I'm very excited for you.

Monte, get well soon!

Thanks for the good wishes.  I'm ready to get on with it an begin the physical therapy.  Hopefully the end result will be worth it.

Hey ladies!  What do you think?  Can we get to be GOOBs too?   ;D

Interesting thought Melena, and one I must admit I never considered.  Female coots we have known?  Hmmm, Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies was definitely a coot.  So was Marjorie Main in the Ma & Pa Kettle movies.  Now Shirley McLain would certainly have to be classified as a curmudgeon.  Phyllis Diller would be a coot but not Betty White.  Or would she???  But geezers, now that is something entirely different.  Gabby Hayes, Walter Brennan, and Newt Gingrich would be geezers.  I suppose you could be a geezer if you would like to be called a geezer.   ;D

I think that old Coots can be funny and entertaining, so I would think that
1. Yes, women can be old coots
2. Betty White qualifies hands-down as very funny, entertaining, and well above the minimum age.

I do know some elderly women who are also Coots, and at least 2-3 who are very curmudgeonly..

Shouldn't lady geezers be called "geezettes"?

So, are you saying she is a hoot of a coot?

Only if they're wearing knee-high, high heeled, white vinyl boots and shaking their pom-poms. Terrible mental image, that.

BTW, got a call from Mike Bengt Phorqs Crenshaw this afternoon. He was in his hospital room and had successfully completed the knee replacement procedure. They will keep the Geezer until Thursday.

Mike sounded amazingly chipper and happy.
Then, he mentioned he was on a morphine drip... ;D
