Got a new Triumph bike!
« on: October 28, 2009, 07:43:13 PM »
Bought a 2009 Triumph SE in black! From a local dealer which is a huge change for me. 40 minutes away! The bike had been ridden for the summer by the owner's wife. 1440 km on the clock only. No PDI or 600 mile checkup charges and the bike was discounted just below the price of a basic Bonnie Black which I really liked too. The SE has brushed alum. cases and the tachometer. It goes for usually I think some $800-$1000 more than the basic black Bonnie. So to get it cheaper and without PDI was worth it. 29.1" seat height!! Nice change. I'll add some sixty8 vintage look accessories in time for that distinctive look. Being FI it should take me over the mtns. of CO and OR and has about 67 or so hp which is very close to the F650GS twin. Doesn't feel heavy or top heavy despite being more than LRB or the F650GS twin. Picking it up tomorrow! So things have moved very fast. I wasn't even considering buying a bike now but I just went for a ride on a nice day and J&R Cycle turned out to be the destination. Still like the V7 classic but this is a local deal I could not ignore.
I'll keep you posted! LRB has to move over a bit; that is all!!! LRB has a new Laminar Lip on Aida's windscreen that makes him super quiet now. I didn't even think of needing earplugs but I'll use them anyway!!! I can even hear the GPS directions on the bluetooth Vemar helmet. Music still stinks.
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Sue...WOW, congratulations! What a nice present to yourself. Hope LRB doesn't get too jealous or angry...you know how Germans don't get along with Brits!

You certainly deserve it -we're all excited to see pics of your fancy new Trump!   I think that the (2) bikes will manage to get along - just be sure to ride each one every week!

Gee I am nervous. Will go get the bike around 3:00pm and ride it home!!
Brrrm Closet tidied up and LRB politely asked to shuffle over a bit. I haven't said anything about the nationality of his new neighbour yet!
Let there be "peace in our time"!!!! :-X :o

I think they'll get along famously!   ;)

Just try your best to give them equal riding time!  (And as much as YOU love to ride, that shouldn't be too much of a problem!)   ;D

Congratulations!!

And let me remind you that the German Kansler, Angela Merkel, supports Tony Blair as president of the European Union. So no doubt that the LRB and your new Triumph will get along famously!

greetings from a sunny and cold north, 45F

I bet the Guzzi has alot of similar 'character' to the R65, but I can understand Sue's concerns about not having a dealer anywhere nearby for it, especially as it would be a new bike and prone to "new bike" stuff.

I think that she'll have plenty of power and lack of seat height to put both feet firmly down on the Triumph - that model looks alot like the "last hurrah" models of the late 70's with the Lester wheels.  I think they look great!

The big question is, what will she "name" her new bike?  Given its lineage and the fact she's named her R65 "Little Red Baron", I don't think that naming the Trump after British WW1 ace Edward Mannock is very catchy.  I'm sure that she'll figure something out!!

Mike - I *think* that Sue's bike is the SE model with 2-tone paint and polished engine cases, not the "Bonneville Black" model, but both have the alloy wheels, not spoked, and full instruments.

Make the pain go away!

Lucky you, Sue. I'm thinking of selling a major organ so I can score a Thruxton. Will be down south at Lone Star BMW/Triumph in Austin, Texas, on Saturday morning. Somebody shoot me!

Monte, I don't think the major organ is the issue for you, unless it's about 5'9" with honey blonde hair.  Really, you just don't have room in the garage.  So, move to a larger house with a 3, no make that 4, car garage where all of your wishes can come true.  (Do you really need 2 R65's?)  And while you're at Lone Star why not just take a test ride on the Thruxton to see how it fits.  Say, when you're in Austin see if Lone Star has a couple of those 1" BMW rondels that would fit on top of the R90 carbs for me.

BTW, Big John from South Carolina, that marvelous Southern state, pointed out to me today that with the posting of this message I will become a God member.  Where ever did the time go? [smiley=beerchug.gif] [smiley=beerchug.gif]

No Mike, I think Monte needs to look for one of those "gentlemen's farms" with a decent sized barn - that ought to hold a few dozen bikes safely.  Of course, he'll probably also need to shop for a divorce lawyer after that.. :D
