I have most all my vehicles insured with USAA but the R65 I'm able to get covered with Haggerity antique insurance - Rate $102.00 a year - full coverage - no deductable and an agreed value of $4,000.00 - I have used Hagerty many times over the years on Model A's & T's - 1st time for a motorcycle - rate is hard to beat - just so you know - tom

I've had policies with them for over 15 years now .

Currently have four policies with them two for autos and two for bikes .

One technicality, they won't won't insure your 'classic' motorcycle, if it's the only one you have .

You need an 'everyday' bike as well .

I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Nope - I only have one bike with them but I had to send in proof of insurance that I had at least one other "Vehicle"  with full coverage - I sent them a copy of my USAA insurance of my other 4 vehicles. Also my r65 is a 1979 - they as a rule don't take that new a vehicle but I sent them pictures & they reviewed it & said OK

I've had to provide proof (Year, make, model, VIN and insurance company policy number), that I have an 'everyday' car and bike every time I've added a vehicle to my Hagerty poilicy .

Sounds like they don't trust me !!!!

They will insure newer vehicles, after a bad experience with State Farm insurance, I asked if Hagerty would insure my '01 BMW Z3 as a special interest vehicle,  they had no issues with it .

Reduced my premium to about 40% of what State Farm charged and has an agreed upon value four times what State Farm would pay if the vehicle was destroyed or stolen and never recovered .

<<I have most all my vehicles insured with USAA >>

I'm a USAA member in the DC 'burbs, and I couldn't get USAA coverage on my bike, either.

When I bought my R65 in 2007, USAA told me that it no longer insured motorcycles, and referred me to Progressive. I insured with Progressive for two years without an accident or any kind of claim. The third year, my premium went up about 25% without notice. When I read the boilerplate, I found a disclosure that I had been given a sub-prime rate because my credit report said I have not had an auto loan in >10 years. (Who needs to borrow money for a '66 Bug?)

I called Progressive and challenged the increase. Progressive had tried that ploy the first year, but I beat them down, pointing out that I had an auto loan in 1968, and that the credit report was f—up. This time, however, I was unsuccessful. The rep, obviously reading from a script, responded that Progressive had adopted a new underwriting computer model, and that it could not be overridden. I overrode it by telling Progressive to shove their policy, and filing a complaint with USAA about their referral affiliate. (I suspect USAA collects a referral fee from Progressive.)

I switched to Dairyland with only one hitch: Dairyland wanted an appraisal on the R65 before they would write a declared value policy on it. I didn't have time to get it appraised, so I went with liability only—Progressive had covered declared value on the basis of my bill of sale. I've ridden so little in recent months that I haven't gotten around to an appraisal. The premium is significantly less than Progressive's would have been, both with and without declared value.

Here in CA USAA has to insure motorcycles for some reason? - I have my Harley & my BMW, RT insured with USAA but Hatergy is a bunch cheaper for the same coverage on what ever they will take - Hag turned me down on my mint 2001 Corvette with only 7,200 miles on it last year?

I custom built a couple VW trikes a couple years ago - I went with Progressive - Great rate - something like 300 bucks a year for both - then I sold one trike - I called in a cancelled one Trike - My new rate on one trike was over 600$ a year? -

They are OK for 1 year - then dump them - also buy Progressive on line not throught an agent - slimey company! Hagerty & USAA - Class companys! - tom

I've been with Progressive for all my vehicles for 12 + years.. For the R65, only bike on the policy, liability only, I just renewed at 77$ for a year.  If it gets much lower, they'll have to pay me to insure it.

I'm insured by Esurance and called them to cancel a driver and one car that I sold. They said my new rate would be higher by $200 because I lost a discount I had for muliple drivers or cars.

I just said , "forget I called". I now insure a car I no longer own and a driver that no longer drives it. Beats pay'n an extra duece!

My wife doesn't drive my car but I still include her on the policy as it reduces the premium because statistically she's a safer driver than me.

I might have been affronted but I reckoned it made sense as she must be safer if she doesn't drive it.

Aren't insurance companies wonderful.

We are still with State Farm, but with 2 cars, a truck, 3 motorcycles, a home, and business office policy with them we get some very hefty discounts on all the policies, plus discounts for safe driver and no claims.   Another thing which keeps us with them is that we also have a State Farm Bank credit card, which earns us points as we use it, and the points can be put toward paying our policy premiums.   So far we've saved about $1200 over the past 6 years that way.

But I agree - if there wasn't a ton of money to be made, they wouldn't be in the game..

I had 5 bikes insured with progressive for $325 a year, with collision. I laid down my 2002 Sprint last year, I had paid $4000 for it, they gave me $4600 net plus let me keep the bike. Was waiting for the shoe to drop upon renewal this year, only went up about $40, no complaints here.

I had Classic insurance on my R65 the only draw back was no "No Claims" discount, i dont know if you have the same system in the States, My insurance renews  1st April and i have decided to bit the bullet and get a Multi bike policy for the R and the K still cheaper than insuring individually,  i payed  £90 ($135ish) for the R last year now paying £145($220ish) for the pair this time but will get no claims so that will drop dramatically fingers crossed (25% off after 1 year eventually dropping by 60%) i would hope to insure both bikes for less than the original classic policy in 3 years time. The policy covers me for up to 5 bikes and includes European recovery/ roadside assistance.

Lou,

Who do you use for your insurance? I have a multi car policy with Admiral, but I don't think they do bikes.
