An almost imperceptable nod of the head is the usual acknowledgement of another biker in the UK. Perhaps we could conserve even more energy by having a 2nd soleniod operated head like Zaphod Beeblebrox from Hitch Hikers guide to the galaxy

I often do.  And when I'm on my BMW, I always do.   This is one of the many things that attracted me to BMWs - it seemed that ANYTIME I ever encountered a rider one one, regardless of what I was riding, they would always wave.   I figured that any group of riders that were that happy and friendly, had to have something to do with the bikes they were riding.
I think I was right!

Except when I meet Harley drivers who very seldom wave. Methinks that they are too busy keeping their machines upright, or maybe holding their ears. Fact is that they don't wave!

I give a nod most of the time but gave up on harley riders yrs ago, must be to cool or someting..

nhmaf ive found alot of bemmer riders dont nod or wave around my neck of the woods but then again alot of sport bike riders do the same. I think the nod or wave is getting used alot less these days.

I find i get more than my share of "nods" as the bikers you chat to at Squires and other meeting points in this area seem to appreciated "classic" bikes more than others. modern BMW riders especially seem to like Airheads.
Ive even had them pull in beside me on the motorway and ride awhile but i must admit i wait for a Harley rider to nod first as most of them are to high on Autosol to be bothered.

I wave very often, but don't much care whether the other guy waves back.  I know that I can be inside my head or busy dealing with traffic, so I give them the benefit of the doubt.  For me, waving is for my benefit as much as for the one I'm waving to.

If I'm in light traffic, I wave .

But if I'm the usual heavy city traffic, I nod my head in their direction .

Yes unless they are driving a scooter.  Then I usually chew them out because they are wearing Flip Flop, Shorts, Open face Helmet with a Tee Shirt proclaming something that is going to increase my taxes.

Scooter drivers get the full measure.  >:(

I agree.  There's too much going on in city traffic.

I do notice that the vast majority of riders in Vermont wave, whether on Harleys, sport bikes, or metric cruisers.  I've been waved to as I passed people stopped for gas.  A woman on a Harley waved at me as I was mowing my sister-in-law's lawn - my LS was parked in the driveway.

I wave, most of the time.  Sometimes keeping an eye on traffic and hands on the grips is more important.   A nod is good sometimes.  I like being friendly.   It gets me alot further and is more fun than being a snobbish grump.

Most of the older Harley riders will wave, and just about everyone else does the wave around here in Northern California.  But then maybe they know I'm a girl?   ;D   Nah!  It's hard to tell with all that gear on, I think........ :-?

In France an overtaking rider will often wave his right foot as with modern bikes waving the right hand as we used to do makes the throttle snap shut. If you are driving a car and move over to give overtake space you will probably also get the right foot wave as a thank you. Nice.

Generally I nod. Sometime wave if traffic light and it is safe to do so.

It's nice having some camaraderie on the road.

Well ------ I usually waive to other bikers.  Also, when the cars cut me off I wave at them with one finger.
