Looks like the tail is bigger than the dog.................a sidecar a bit too big?......This isn't my rig...I am carrying a Steib LS200.....and it slows me down. On a steep hill and heading into a strong wind I was down to 50 mph. With a sidecar this size I would have been rolling back down the hill. Is just a picture I found........always looking for R65 sidecar rigs.

I may be mistaken, but I think that is a California Friendship(?) car...
They are well made, and definitely are somewhat heavier than the typical Steib or Velorex, and possibly close in weight to the URAL/DNEPR rigs.   They are a good quality rig, from what I've heard, but your chances of "flying the chair" with that on an R65 are pretty low.  On the plus side, I bet it is very stable on right hand turns.

Judging by the tire size on the sidecar it looks rather heavy.  However I have a Steib LS200 on my R60/2 (LS200 is a light car that was originally built for the 200 - 250 cc bikes) and can still hit 65 - 70 on flat roads with the original solo gearing. The R60/2 has about 36 HP - for serious sidecar usage with the larger cars it was geared down.
So - although today the 50 HP rating of the R65 is considered low it should be able to handle a rig. Going to a lower ratio rear end would help. If the front forks are up to the task is another story.
