Tyre Pressures On 1984 R65

Hi - I've been on the Metzeler site to check the correct tyre pressures for my bike & the tyres that I have (newly) fitted. I have a Siebenrock 860 kit fitted so that adds a small amount of weight.

The recommended pressures front and rear are 32psi for both tyres. An extra 2 psi for a passenger.

I have panniers and a back rest so I'm thinking that 34psi should be the normal for the rear tyre solo and 36 psi with the boxes and passenger.

I'm a lightweight and not a fan of high pressures so I run pretty much what you suggest 32 front and 34/35 rear for solo riding with no luggage. I'd go up to 38 rear fully loaded.  Most people will be running higher pressures though.

At the r 65 LS rally last year I came across an r 65 LS with the following tire pressure recommendations under the seat (printed and pasted) : Front 38 Rear 42 ! Am currently running what Barry is using.

You can experiment with pressures and see if there is a  change in handling .

I went up to 40 psi front and back and handling got quicker .

I keep them at 36 psi now .

I sart at 35 front and 40 rear, I won't add air till I lose 5 lbs. I like my front at 30, gives me good feel and feed back. If I start at 30 I have no margin for air loss.
