EPA equipment on a 82 R65???

Greetings,
I introduced myself in the chit chat forum. I recently picked up a 82 R65, which has been sitting for nearly 15 years. I've ordered carb kits, some filters, fuel lines, battery, and such. I've been restoring old Triumph motorcycles and MG's for a while now, but they have all been older than 71, so the motorcycles don't have smog control. The MG's I've done do. I think the PCV and fuel vapor recovery are good, but exhaust air modification do not add or help much.
This bike has what seems to be a PCV valve under the top cover which ventilates the crankcase through the carbs? It also has exhaust air "something" which is vacuum activated, equalization??, or what?
I'm not sure if I will keep the air box, or use some individual K&N filters on the carbs, I'm open to suggestions, but whatever I do, I'd like to know what to do with the smog equipment? I know the crank case needs to be ventilated, what is the best way to accomplish this without the air box? Can the exhaust devices be plugged at the heads?

While you're droning along with the verbose Snowbum, locate his article and parts list required to eliminate the BMW Pulse Air System. You can thank the gubmint of California for their smoggy air laws that resulted in all BMWs sold in North America to be fitted with this pathetic add-on.

Dump it and ride happy.

The thread size of the fitting in the heads   are a standard metric thread.
So you do not have to by drain plugs if you don't want to.
Just get the shortest bolt you can find and cut it off and thread it in.

I bought a bag of socket headed chromed brass bolts/grub screws from a Chinese supplier for somewhat less than one BMW drain bolt would have cost. Worth considering, mind you if you are retro-fitting a complete bike (I was only swapping heads) the two timing hole covers might be the clincher that makes the kit cheaper.
