tire trouble

Hello lads and lasses

Its been a while since I posted but finally getting round to doing some work on my bike after 2yrs lying idle in the garage. Anyways started putting on a new pair of tyres only for me to firstly  somehow puncture the tube in the front (aaaaahhhhh!) wheel. Managed the rear ok but having trouble seating the bead correctly on the rim. Any advice gratefully received

How much pressure are you using to try to seat it?  Warm tire, lubed?  The last one I did I had to let it sit for several minutes before both sides popped into place.

Currently using a foot pump, but gonna take it round to my pa,s to use his compressor, hopefully this will do the trick

A good bodge on a coolish day when the tyre is stiff is to steal a hairdryer and run it round the tyre before you pop it on to the wheel.

Never going to happen with a "foot" pump.  You need to lube/soap the hell out of it, warm as suggested, and I have had to put close to 100 psi in some to get it to seat!  I don't know what the safety limit is and I am not telling you to automatically put in 100 psi.

Be sure to ride carefully the first 10 miles or so, those new tires are usually pretty slick at first.....Dew.
