Hello !
When I bought my new '82 R65 (in April 84... the bike sat for a couple of years in the showroom) I got the tool kit.
But as far as I can remember, there where no tire irons in it.
Also, the RealOem site shows a tube socket #21 which I do not have and I wonder what it is used for.
Could you please tell me if, on bikes of the same era, the irons where standard or an extra, and what is the tube socket and what's use it has .

My tool kit did not come with #'s 19 and 21 .

I know one of the tube sockets, is for spark plug removal, when you place item # 17 in the round hole, you can remove the plugs with a tap of one of the wrenches if you can't loosen it by hand .

Looks like Motobins sells two complete kits, an original BMW one and their own priced at UK138 & UK83 respectively. They both have the tyre irons, not sure about the other piece though. TBH the Motobins own kit looks better.

So seems like good value included with your original R65 purchase!

No 21 seems to have 2 pins so would presumably undo the ignition switch bezel.

I just use my leatherman needle-nosed pliers.

My '84 didn't come with #21 or any tyre levers although I added my own levers.
I don't keep them in the tool roll, they live in a sleeve of pushbike inner tube in the bottom of the tool tray.

I think the bottom line is R65 tool kits were never quite as comprehensive as the earlier bikes.

Yes, exactly the same ! Even the yellow trim is identical !
I bet it came from an '82 bike ...

Mine is identical to the photos; from a '81 US delivery bike. I've added substantial tire irons plus a feeler gauge . . . . Also have an aluminum Zefal tire pump for the top frame tube.
