Repop BMW speedos
« on: December 12, 2012, 03:27:03 PM »
Picked up this info off of the Boxerworks forum. Mostly gauges for vintage tractor restos but several speedometers for vintage Airheads. No R65s but some older and later model BMWs.

Worth scrolling through just to gawk at the low prices. Caveat Emptor, y'all. 8-)

You weren't kidding! A lot of them cost less than my lowest repair charge! But did you notice they're made in India? The one Indian speedo I've seen so far was pretty cheap - but still, even at that, I don't see how they can sell them THAT cheap!

Failed to mention the Made in India deal -hence the caveat- but the website doesn't hide the source.

Aren't the "new" Royal Enfields made in India? The ones I've seen running around do so quite well. India has also cut a deal to "assemble" and sell Harley-Ds in-country. If you occasionally read the Wall Street Journal or other financial reports, you'll discover that India has become a huge financial engine with many worldwide investors. Thailand also seems to be showing the same growth, even, among many other things, building Triumph motorcycles.

With these nations expanding their export sales, three important  factors come into play: 1) Cost of labor;  2) Cost of labor; and the all important #3) Cost of labor.

I left my financial advisor and broker deal with all this Global Economy togetherness. I'll just continue to putter around on the old Airheads. Shoot, I even subscribe to a printed newspaper.  ;D

Something seems a bit strange.  Re-pop MF and IH tractor gauges?!

Vintage tractor resto, with either total OEM or with a few less pricey repops, is an extremely popular hobby. Almost as bad as some Airhead peeps.

Big show in Weatherford,Texas brings out some truly spectacular old farm equipment. Then there's that whole "stationary engine" niche...  It's all good.

That was fun.  Sidecar rigs with reverse gear might make a fun square dance too.  Though, I have a hard time imagining them doing it as gracefully as those tractors.
