R65LS Rear Turn Signal

How do you tighten up a rear turn signal, noticed the rr is a little loose.  It can be rotated by hand on the shaft it is affixed to.

Remove the lens, and you'll find a metal strap that goes over the tube the turn directional mounts onto, it's secured with two screws .

If the screws are tight, you may need to wrap a few layers of tape on the tube to get it to tighten up and hold the turn directional like it should .

I've found that the metal clamp gets distorted. Probably from over-tightening or the signal getting bumped.

Unscrew the fixing screws and remove the metal plate. Not the flat ones with the serrated edges - the one that the screws hold down to clamp the signal.

The solution is to carefully bend it back to original shape. Take a look at the two flats with the screw holes - they should line up but probably aren't if the signal is floppy. bend them so they do line up.

The tape method also works for floppy front turn signals on the LS as well - they tend to get loose at the attachment point where it slides through the fairing nacelle.

Quality advice here by Wirespokes. I just performed this on a friend's rear signal stalks. The result was rock solid signals after carefully reshaping the hardware.  Inspect the hardware closely and the intent of the fitment. I think the original problem with the bike I dealt with was a result of misalignment and overtightening.

Thanks for the advice.  Went in and tightened up the two screws, they were loose.

Simplest solution yet!

There's nothing like loose, floppy signals pointing off in the wrong direction and bent/tweaked mounting stocks hanging them off at weird angles to make a bike look shabby. And it's so easily repaired!

But I still recall the first time trying to figure out why the signals wouldn't tighten up - took a while to realize the little bracket was bent and to straighten it out. Over-tightening the mounting screws will bend the ears in and eventually won't tighten any more and the signal will then be floppy.

And if you want to tuck the rear indicators in a bit just cut the tubes down and cut and file a new square cutout to match the existing. Might stop them getting knocked around.

Did this mod on both my R65s after the first boot-knocking of the signal housings. Have approx 1.25 inch of mounting stalk showing. The signals do tuck in nicely.
