Sucking leaking sound from head
« on: April 29, 2012, 03:52:43 AM »
I just got home from a ride and noticed the strangest sound coming from my left cylinder head. It sounds like pressure escaping from somewhere moist -- I don't know how else to describe. A kind of wet sucking sound.

Any ideas? After a few minutes it stopped, but it was quite noticeably loud, and I've never heard it before. I'm sure I would have noticed. Had just taken it for a half hour ride to blow the cobwebs out.

LOL   ;D

All of us have been concerned about that one at some point.

Did you wash the bike before going for the ride?

Did you hit a rain squal?

There are a few fins near the valve cover where trapped water merrily boils away, producing the sound you were hearing.

Mine sounds like "bacon frying" when it's boiling off moisture that gets trapped in the fins in the valve cover/spark plug area.

Could it be that ?

Wirespokes, we just had our first big rain for the season last night, so the roads were a bit wet.

Cheers. It was freaking me out.

Put this back in the memory banks and save it for when it happens to you , when you turn the key to the "ON" position and get a wheezing/whistling sound .

When you turn the key on, the ignition system fires both spark plugs, if a valve is open and there is enough of a combustible mixture still present in the cylinder, it will ignite, with the aforementioned sound .

Like, perhaps, we're getting close to having a few more statesmen?  ;D

You've seen that signature line? Statesmen are dead politicians - and that's what we need - more statesmen!

My bike does that almost every single day.  It probably did it today but I went in to get out of the rain.
