pannier mounts

Just fitted secondhand mounts to my 79 r65. The oem fiche shows a M6x45 bolt connects rear arms/bars? together, but the gap between mine is 80mm.

There is a loop on the rear of the frame between the seat and stop light, i assume this is for aligning the mounts with the bolt.

The loop is 40mm long. So a 45mm bolt obviously wont work, and there is a 20mm gap between the loop and each bar/arm.

I'm thinking  a longer bolt with locking nuts galore. Whats the collective experience and advice?

I never even thought to check what the OEM part was.  I just measured the diameter and length I needed and bought a bolt that fitted.

I don't remember that much of a gap between the rack and the bike parts though.  My local hardware store sells spacers, so maybe you can find something more elegant than a bunch of locking nuts?

Spacers! Genius!
My left mount is a bit wonky. Prob crash/dropsy damage,
which may explain the larger gap.
Did you thread bolt through loop on rear frame?
Thanks for the replies guys.

Sigh.  I can't retire until I get a mill and a lathe.
