Is this the right head for my R65LS?
« on: April 07, 2011, 11:06:03 AM »
Hi Gang,

I discussed this with Rob before purchasing but before I run the new head to the machine shop to get cleaned up, can I please get another confirmation that this is the correct head for my R65LS?  I believe some of the older ones had smaller valves?

The numbers say R65 BMW 335-234   R6 Si Cu

Here's pictures from the posting on Ebay:

The later series (1981-on) R65 bikes did have larger valves.  Earlier models had 38mm intake, 34mm exhaust, later modesl has 40mm intake, 36mm exhaust.

There is a way to tell from some numbers stamped into the head casting, but I cannot recall at the moment.  I suppose you can always measure the valve diameters!

Definitely! I can ask my guy at the machine shop to measure them - I'm pretty sure this is the correct head and so did Rob Valdez.
