Fork extension clunk.

I got a bit enthusiastic riding home from work tonight and hit a wee hump on the road quick enough to lift the front wheel for a split second. As the forks shot out to full extension I was met with a strange clunking  sensation at the bars. Having rebuilt the Bimbo's forks a half dozen or so times and never felt this before I was wondering if the stronger springing could be showing up a worn rubber bumper washer that sit bellow the damper piston ring assembly? (the ones fitted are a couple that came out of a set of low mileage forks I got given and stripped down ages ago). Or is it a matter of messing round with the oil volume/weight to find out what suits the progressive springs?

What weight oil did you put in the forks after your rebuild? I believe you said you put in less oil than the manual says to, if I recall correctly.

170cc, an 15 weight oil (what the progresive spring manufacture recomended).

Its not a problem as he handles fine but the clunk was a little disconcerting. My first thought was somethings worked lose slider, but all the bolts are tight and at the right torque settings.

Doh! I'm an idiot!
Took a good close look at the front end in the daylight and found the cause of my clunk. The fairing H bracketlower bolts were both lose and the clunking I felt through the bars was the fairing moving against the bracket slightly. Nothing to do with the forks at all!

Like I said I'm an idiot.

Hmmm, would that translate to a "plonker"?  Somebody a bit slow and a bit dim, probably game from the TV series, "The Andy Griffith Show".  The town gast station attendent/mechanic wasn't the brightest bulb in the box and his name was Goober...
