choke cables???
« on: April 22, 2007, 08:40:25 PM »
when i rescued my poor 65 it was missing the air box and choke control. i found what i needed on ebay, ordered a set of cables from my local dealer (nick's bmw of green bay). i had installed them, when to choke the carbs it works like it is supposed to, when i go to turn the choke off the cable doesnt move the housing moves? what am i doing wrong? i tried tighten up the adjuster knobs but it still does it because there isnt enough to get the cable housing tight in the adjusters. do i need longer cable housings or shorter housings? shorter cables?

Do you have the little brass hex fittings fitted to the lever as in the pic?
It is common for people to remove them with the cables, though they are actually a part of the lever housing. The outer sheath threads into them to locate and lock the cables to stop exactly what you are experiencing.

Why don't you go to RealOEM.com insert the last 7 characters of your bikes serial number, then proced to the carburetor section and take a look at the exploded parts diagram for this installation. I am assuming you have a '79 or '80 model bike that doesn't have the 'choke' lever on the handlebar.
'81 R65
'82 R65 LS
'84 R65 LS
'87 Moto Guzzi V65 Lario
'02 R1150R
Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!
