That is a really nice red, but I like your idea of a pearly white better.
There was a white R65 on Ebay not long ago, and while not a stock color, it sure did look good!

Yes, Yes, Yes!  I love the yellow LS!  Just what I was thinking.

I do also remember a sort of teal color on the R65s that I thought was very cool looking.  I know we sold one back when the dealership was Scooterville that was the teal color.  Don't see many of them, though.

I also like the pearl whites, but I think that could be a difficult paint to manage?

Add another vote for Henna Red, or bright yellow as a close second choice.
I was once looking at a bike in Florida, an R75/5 that the owner had painted
a rather dark, glossy green - it wasn't the traditional very dark british racing green
that one often sees on Jaguars, but a few shades lighter/brighter.   It looked very nice
on a BMW for some reason.  I think that there may have been some older Porsche 911s
that came in a similar color as well.

I really like the Yellow and Black.

Here is the LS that was on e-bay recently (that I missed bidding on).

Colour aside which is distinctive, I really like the wire wheels on this bike, don't think I have seen an R65 with relaced wire wheels and twin disks.

Don't let a committee pick out your color or have some sort of "BMW would never had used THAT color" mindset be your guide.  Pick out a color you like and go for it!  Hey, unless you are doing a 100%, 100 point resto. what difference does it make?  Just remember, you're gonna have to live with it so you might as well like it!

I'm not really looking for a committee decision, I'm looking for ideas or photos I guess.  Decision will be all mine.  :)

Here is another color that catches my eye and the fairing too.  Its a Hannigan.  OOOOOOOOOO! :o

The color compliments the silvers of the engine-frame and the black of the tires-seat-bags.

I think I want a Hannigan to replace my Luftmeister.

Yeah, I started with that site, I didn't find as many photos as I would have liked.  I did find a nice photo of black R65 with no pinstrip.  Looked so clean and more "modern" if you will.

Got your photos as well, thanks
Steve

I reckon I'll try to post the same photo of my avatar only larger, so you can look at another color.  Hope this works.  This may be the teal color that was mentioned earlier

Yeah, that's the teal I think someone referred to earlier, and I see your bike is an '81.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think teal was an '81 model year exclusive.

Nice color!

thanks for the compliments guys.  My knowledge of the history of these bikes is minimal, so I can't say for sure whether this color was only offered in 1981.  I can say that I can't find many photos of R65's with this color on the internet.  I like the color quite a bit, but I'm partial to blues and greens - so I guess this is kind of a compromise between my two preferences.  The paint is in fairly good condition except for the front fender, where the previous owner had jerry-rigged some kind of home-made cruising pegs that I guess rubbed on the front fender somehow.  They were off the bike when I bought it, but came along with the bike.  I took one look at them and threw 'em in the trash when I got home.

One kind of cool thing is that the BMW symbols on the gas tank have faded over time to a gold color, which just so happens to match the pinstripes on the tank and the "R65" on the side covers pretty well.  A friend of mine has some spare emblems he was going to give me to replace the old ones, but I wanted to leave the old ones on.

Yeah, very nice indeed, and not something you're gonna see every day either.

Steve, I know this isn't up for a vote and you're gonna do what you're gonna do, but I'd seriously consider this teal, if you plan to stay with a factory BMW color, that is.

PS: Va Steve, if you have a seat cowl coming in teal and it's from an '81 or later, keep in mind that it's gonna fit differently from the '79-'80 cowls, if at all. The seats and cowls both changed beginning with the '81 models.
