Broke Alternator Brush
« on: September 03, 2009, 08:12:44 PM »
Hello All...was working on my bike and putting all the things together after installing timing chain and dropped the alternator and broke one of the Carbon brushes >  :(.  Not sure if I can just buy one brush or the whole unit needs to be replaced. Any ideas?...Thanks

If you have an alternator/generator/starter repair shop in the vicinity, stop by with the brushes, they should be able to supply a replacement set, for minimal cost .

I would replace both brushes, instead of just one .

Worse case scenario, Motorrad Elektrik, Euro Motoelectrics can supply them for around $10 for a set .

They're cheap. Just buy a pair and refresh both. Then you will avoid having to remember which one will wear out first. ;)

I find a small butane soldering torch makes quick work of soldering on the new braided wire leads.
