Timing light advance degrees setting?
« on: June 13, 2009, 06:50:08 PM »
I can't find what advance degrees to dial my timing gun to, to check the timing on my 82 R65LS w/ electronic ignition.
Does anyone know the setting by chance.  Clymer is no help on this one.
Thanks so much!

I am not completely, 100% certain, but I believe that the static timing for all post  1980 airheads is 6 degrees BTDC, with full advance at 26 degrees.
Airhead #12178 ? BMWMOA #123173 ?BMWRA #33525 ?GSBMWR #563 ?1982 BMW R65LS ?1978 BMW R100/7 1998 Kawasaki Concours

My handbook says 6 deg BTDC static and 32 Deg BTDC at full advance (6 + 26).

I find it pinks a little at these settings using 95 Octane unleaded so I Retard another 1.5 - 2 Deg.
