Am I a fraud? Or alternatively should I resign from R65.org
« on: August 01, 2022, 11:38:56 PM »
The thing is, neither my wife or I own an R65.

Herself's R65, purchased new in 1979 has had an R80 engine since 1987. My R65 received an 860cc kit and a K100RS front end several years ago.

Worse, neither of them have been ridden in over a year.

Last year the final drive crownwheel seal blew just as we were preparing for a dirt bike trip to the tip of Cape York, so the repair was back-burnered.

My former R65 received some basic prep and was taken to the restorers clubs get together. The idle circuits in the car s were clogged, so I rode it accordingly.

We got back from Cape York and I contracted shingles, then other bits of life intervened and I only turned my mind to them when it came fine for this year's club event, except I want to take the JPS.

I did reseal the final drive on the 800,. It time and neglect has done a number on the master cylinder so now awaiting  rebuild kit for it.

The JPS is getting -

New subframe
.NOS Krauser frames
New shocks
New starter
New centre stand
Repaired side stand
New brake lines and disc pads
A USB port
Wedge tail Ignition
All oils changed.

I am leaving Saturday, so time to extract digit.

When I return I will service the carbs on the 860.

In my youth there was a sports car driver that I admired. He had some wear and tear on his body and finally he had to have some parts swapped out so he was obviously, "not numbers matching". just like your R65's.

He was still Carrol Shelby, and your bikes are still R65's. Stick around my friend!

Thanks Wilton, I am planning to hang around for a while.

I am looking forward to the club get-together this weekend, it will mark only the 4th time I have ridden the JPS since I bought it in 2020.

So, in answer to the obvious question of what I have been up to, I have been playing a th my new toy, a 2021 Suzuki DRZ400 which I have by of up as a light weight adventure bike.

We are off mid next week to Cooktown via the Bloomfield Track. I may post some photos.

There are a number of rallies I'd like to go to before I either get too old or the cold guy with a sickle taps me on the shoulder.

Unfortunately my health has precluded long rides of late. Next week is an over night test.

I also do not own an R65  :o

However, if your post should escalate and generate a vote as to which one of us frauds should leave, I would probably be sorely dissapointed  :stare:

So think of me before doing anything I might regret  :uhoh2:

Pics of bikes, rallies, parts, horific aussie backroads etc, technical insignts, feedback about life in general and everything else always apreciated Tony  :tekst-toppie:

Not off to the OCR then Tony?

Kicking myself severely. I've only just realised it is at Adel's Grove this year, only 2 days for me to get there and somewhere I want to go.

Bugger!

Well, the JPS and I made it to Cardwell and back. She rattles a bit and used 300ml of oil in just over 400km. I think I will shout her some new rings.

But first I will get a new set of intake rubbers.

As I was leaving there was a backfire and the LHS carburettor was blown clean off.

And that children is why we pay for genuine intake rubbers and don't substitute for bits of hose that just happen to fit.
