Hi alltogether,

Today my wife an I took a ride from our home through the port of Hamburg to the point where the russian sidecar-bikers meet. It was a great and shiny day.

Here are some pictures from the trip. Hope you like them.

I took these pics while crossing the Köhlbrand-bridge:









Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany. It has got 2 million inhabitants. The harbour is the No. 2 in Europe. Only Rotterdam is bigger.

This is the skyline of Hamburg. You don´t find skyscrapers there.

Dirk, a couple of those shots would have made for great dealer brochures, back in the day!  ;)  That bridge really looks like it has some elevation, I'd hate to fall off!  :o Looks like you had fun...

Excellent photos, Dirk!  You have a really good "eye" for composing nice photographs!  You must have either taken some photography or design classes, I'm thinking! ;)

On another note, your bikes always look so clean!   How do you keep them both so shiny and looking like new?  I get depressed every time I see your clean and shny bikes and then I step outside and see Britta, looking so "grungy". :-[

Concerning the point "Euromotolust"
I just organize a rallye for the members of  the Kleine-Boxer-Forum through Northern Germany. I ´ve even got 4 registrations from the Netherlands and from Greece. It would be great  to have American guests with us. So everybody who has fun and time to join us, is invited to come to Hamburg in June.  :)

On the other hand many Germans have the dream to travel once in their life across the States by bike (it must be a Harley-Davidson). And there are many pensioners, who also fulfill themselves this dream.
 
@ John: The cows look clean, but I make myself only little work thereby. I have a simple trick. I cover the motorcycles in the winter with a layer of WD-40 oil. After wiping the oil off ,the cows seem to be new. ;D

Dirk,
I  love your pictures of your rides.  I love seeing the different parts of Germany.  I haven't been there yet, but some day I may be able to do it.  

I love your trick with the WD40.  I think I'm going to try it.     ::)  I think it would help with keeping the aluminum from corroding.

Hi friends,

here are some more pics of a special part of Hamburg. It´s called Speicherstadt, which means depot city. These depot blocks were built in the early years of the 19th century and still used as a depot for oversea wares like oriental carpets, tabacco, tea, spices an colonial wares. The Speicherstadt lies in the port of Hamburg.

Dirk, Moderator John J and I are considering a European tour next Spring, to celebrate him finally graduating from school. Do you suppose your wife would mind if we used your place as our Base of Operations for a week or 10? :o

Seriously, though, great pics again, as always. For some odd reason, though, the one with the boat sitting in shallow water kinda reminds me of the old "Tidy-Bowl" television commercials... :-?

Man, the architecture in those last few shots you posted is just fantastic!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

If we ever do get over there, we'll probably have to be deported back to the US, 'cause we'd likely NOT leave willingly!

Dirk, have you ever made a trip to Cologne or Dresden?  I would LOVE to see some photos of those two historic and lovely cities!

I took the ferry to and from Hamburg a couple of time's before the channel tunnel opend, but never really had the time in hand to take a wander round the city. I'm really regretting that, other than a trip round the church which you can see the tower of in the skyline piccy that I've not.

Cheers for the piccys Dirk, I'm definately going to plan a nights stop over in Hamburg next time I'm off to Germany.

@ thrang: we are nearly neighbors. You will always get a saussage and a beer if you are in Germany.

Yes, John I´ve been to Dresden an Cologne for many times. I have to work a lot in Dresden. I love this city. It´s very nice.

The "Kölner Dom" (The cathedral) is great, but the rest of Cologne is ugly.

Yeah, that cathedral is among the most beautiful churches in the world, along with the La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain.

Hi Guys,

the Krauts are back. ;D
It´s a long time ago that I´ve written here, but I always come along to read what´s new.

Last weekend we´ve had the Hamburg Citypark Race for classic bikes and cars. There were some interesting old Beemers and Zündapps. Hope you like this pics.

Outside the racing area stood an old R 51/3. It was built in 1952, but it looked newer than new.






Never in my life I´ve seen such a clean engine.



There were some funny racers with sidecars. This one is a R51/2 from 1951. Only 5000 bikes of this type were built. I can´t understand why somebody keeps this treasure in another condition than the original. :'( You should have seen them in the race. They run like hell. :o And if you think this Beemer is old, you should have seen his owner. They were forced to ride, because the haven´t been able to walk anymore. ;D



This has been a R69 from the late fiftieth.



The sound of the hell machine was great.




This one is a pre-war Zündapp KS 600. It was built in 1939. Those civil versions are very rare nowadays, because most of the motorcycles got drafted in the WW 2.




After they got drafted they looked like this Zündapp KS 750. Since the borders to Poland and East Europe have been opened, a lot of veteran bikes come back to Germany. Most of them are well restaurated.
