My mate was planning to swap his FD main seal on the bike. I suggested for the extra 5 nuts and 1 wingnut, we pull it and deal with it on the bench. His other FD had the seal face on the bevel shaft scored by some animal, so he was a bit nervous about the job.
Plan A as expected, failed miserably. The size of the tools provided were also lacking. Seal puller like a toothpick....1/8 drill and small self tapper...
Plan B with a 14" slim engineers screwdriver through a bigger hole in the seal with a crowbar to rest it on got it out safely.
The white corrosion on the seal edge confirmed it hadn't been out in 30 years. The baby was lovingly handed back to the expectant father with a new seal fitted
