Maiden Voyage!
« on: February 09, 2007, 06:40:16 PM »
Bought my '81 R65 from a friend just a couple weeks ago.  He hadn't ridden it in 6 years. I took it right to Nathan at Boxerworks and he went through the whole bike, rebuilt the bings among lots of other work...anyway...

I got the bike back today. By the time I got home it was almost dark and on went boots, leather, gloves and helmet and I was off on my maiden voyage.  Just took it down the road, about a 1 mile circle, but I couldn't stop!  The brakes worked fine, but I just kept taking it through the gears, coming up to the stop sign and going again, and again, and again.  It was dark and I finally realized I was cold, so I pulled it in and shut it down.

Now I need your help.  I'm having a hard time getting this shit-eating grin off my face.  You guys have a cure for that?  Man I'm having a ball! Can't wait to get back on 'er tomorrow.

I think a 'Four Corners' tour of the US might solve your 'problem', but wait for more favorable weather!

I'm back.  Man I'm still grinning.  Yeah I'm hooked.  I've been chompin' at the bit since I picked this one up, but I needed Nathan's help to get it going.  Except for my son's dirt bike, it has been a LONG time (20 years?) since I've ridden. The dirt is fun, but there's something a whole lot more satisfying about that twin revving side to side under you, isn't there?  I'll work up to the 4 corners of Oglethorpe county for the time being. Then we'll see about seeing some of SC and NC.

After your tour of Oglethorpe county, head for the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Pick it up in GA and you can go almost 500 miles on some GREAT roads!  Then we'll never see you again...   ;D  You'll LOVE this bike on the twisties.

OK, dd, If you decide to ride up near Oconee county (Hwy. 28 has some wicked curves going up into NC), shoot me a PM, and I'll ride along!  Any excuse to ride is good enough for me! [smiley=grin.gif]

Been out a few more times, getting a little farther each time.  Nathan at Boxerworks helped me though an issue yesterday when the right side wouldn't fire.  Turns out it was a fuel blockage and I got 'er all cleaned out.  Purring (these boxers don't really purr do they?) nice and even now.  Feeling mighty good about my ride!  And the smile on my face just gets wider and wider.

Well here in GA the spring has sprung and I've been riding (almost) every day.  Got my tag and insurance in late Feb and started riding to work daily. Beautiful ride, 30 miles each way on hilly country roads, lots of approx equal routes and lot's of nice alternatives for a "long ride home."  So far I've put nearly 1000 miles on in March!

I'm having a ball.  Looking forward to some traveling, but probably need to rebuild some leaky front forks first. More soon.  Thanks,

dd
