Wix filters

Anyone use a Wix oil filter in their R656?

It's jointed just like the Mahl I just put in, and Wix has a great reputation. I compared a Wix auto filter to a Fram and the Wix had like twice the element in it ...

Wix is a good filter, reports I have read rate it better than K&N or Fram. There's no question with OEM as some will chime in. Where did you find the WIX? Part #?

I saw one on Ebay (motorcycle parts>R65) and was surprised when I saw it was a Wix. (I saw an independent test on oil filters a while ago and Wix trounced all others, so I started to use Wix in everything I could - cars, mowers, tractors, etc.)

I went to the Wix website (http://www.wixfilters.com/) and then the search function (http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/index.asp) and found they actually have a model for the R65, #24945.

When you say "There's no question with OEM", what do you mean? That OEM is the best? Or the most trustable/least problematic?

I would have to say that the OEM are the most trusted. The best? I dunno but defiantly the most recommended from what I've read.

who has removed a couple of 'flat as a pancake' Fram filters and has at least one still in the box you can have for postage.

I have been using the non BMW boxed Mahle filters for some time as they are the OEM for BMW's filters.  I would not hesitate to use a Wix filter as their automotive filters are among the best.  When I run out I will probably look into the Wix...

From the picture, it looks like the Wix comes with the fat O-ring and the cover gasket, so it's a kit.  No shim that I see, but I've been saving my old ones (?) for some time.  I'm hopeless.

I have several new "shims" but have never seen the need to replace one as they have never been deformed.  I order just the bare filters and use the white O-ring until it starts to take a pronounced squareish set after being removed...

I hate to here about the Fram filters.  I use the straight ones and just ordered some from Advance Auto.  Is the failure with the Frams wide spread?  I used to use NAPPA brand but their part number for the NAPPA gold filter became obsolete  this year.  Does anyone have an opinion on one piece vs two piece filters?

I have never had a filter crush on me, but I have only used OEM...

If I were to use a aftermarket brand, I would insist it be a hinged type, as they have a effectively shorter length with which to prevent collapse.

Too bad about the Frams...
