Odd Electrical Fix !!!
« on: November 13, 2013, 05:07:51 PM »
Since I got my Guzzi on the road in April of this year, I've had a very dim charge light illuminated .

Replaced the voltage regulator with a higher voltage regulator from Motorrad Elektrik, replaced the diode board and pulled the brushes to check for length, etc ....

All of this work didn't get rid of the dim charge light .

I rerouted the new wiring harness for the headlight from Eastern Beaver last week, started the bike to make sure I didn't miss anything like last week, when I didn't get the ground wire for the Dyna S ignition reinstalled on the battery post !!! ::)

Well, I noticed today when I started the Guzzi the charge light wasn't illuminated dimly !!

That's odd !!

Removed the new headlight harness and put the bike back the way it was, and the charge light is on dimly again .

No idea why this is happening .

Reinstalled the headlight harness and the light is out again and checked the voltage at the battery and it's up about 2 volts at idle, even the bikes voltmeter shows a higher output now .

Like I said , odd fix !!!!

Update, during the weeks of Christmas and Nnew Year, I rode the Lario to work for 10 days, the dim charge light was back, but interrmittent .

Today I replaced two terminal ends for the wires that go to the Dyna S ignition system .

While I had the side panels off and was in the area, I removed the battery negative cable where it attaches to the bikes frame to check for corrosion, general condition found nothing wrong, clean .

One of the bolts for rear master cylinder is the main ground under the nut on the backside of the frame .

Had to remove both bolts for the master cylinder and cut a cable tie to get access to reinstall the two nuts .

After moving the wire bundle out of the way, I found  ' stray ' terminal end with four wires, it was not under either of the nuts that I removed .

Reinstalled the terminal on one of the bolts and amazingly, the charge light is not coming on and the electrical system is now putting out 13.8 volts under full load at 3000 rpm's .

I'll see what result I get when riding the bike to work on Saturday morning at 510 AM !!!!

Gotta love previous owners, no telling how long this terminal had not been connected correctly . ;D ;D ;D ;D

This is the third wire that I've found not connected .
