Barn Find

OK, it really isn't a barn find, but the elderly fellow that bought it new in 2002 only rode it to church on Sunday and to the 7-11 for the occasional slurpy.  The bike had 493 original miles on it when I picked it up on friday.  He also has a like new 1965 Mustang in the hermetically sealed garage where he keeps his vehicles.  He traded this bike in on a new 2011 Bonneville.  Being rather OCD about things he changed the fluids and had service done based on the time, not on mileage.  All the rubber is fresh and fluids are nice and clean.  The bike runs like a champ.  My good fortune!

Lemme see here... Ol' Bengt has the Axis Power's bikes covered with a Japanese Yamaha, an Italian Moto Guzzi, and several German BMWs.

Finally, something from the Allies! [smiley=clap.gif]  Oh, lordy... is a H-D going to get called up?

Lovely Hinckley Bonneville there, Mike. Of course, I do recall the vintage single cylinder Turnip you have tucked away in a corner. But that puppy ain't running right now, so it's MIA.

Mike, I think you owe Theresa something on the order of a grand piano.

What is with all our members getting Triumphs these days?   Sue, Monte, and now you?!    Well, they certainly are nice, and whether it is a newer Hinckley Bonneville or an 'original' Bonneville - they are such classy-looking bikes - and the Hinckleys will be at least as reliable as a BMW will ;-)

Unsure of how the dealerships are stocked in your neighborhood, Mike, but 'round these parts, it seems that BMW dealers include Triumphs in their product lines. Resistance is futile, I suppose.

Having now owned the Trophy 900 for a few months, I can say I r-e-a-l-l-y prefer the R65s for the majority of my two-wheeled work. Flick... zoom...flick...zoom [smiley=thumbup.gif]

The Trophy is wonderful while touring two-up out on the excellent state, ranch and county roads of Texas. In town, it's an absolute pig! Top heavy, slow tip in for turns and rather cumbersome in traffic. I actually believe the Bonneville will be closer to the BMW's handling.

Mike says he now wants a windshield and bags... kinda like the Harley.  Inside joke. Mike knows.

Well I've always loved the classic lines of the Bonnie.  And it does ride a lot like a R65, loves to rev but a lot more power.  And for the quality and prices they go for, it's a really good value.  Or so it seems to me.  I was considering a Hardly but until they come out with a retro 1930's VL I think that I'll pass.  This bike will be my around town bike.

Gee it must bike buying month or something 8-), Steve buying a Guzzi & now Bengt's bonnie, cant go wrong with the retro bonnie's.
