First fill up of gas under my ownership, riding in a very strong wind, worked out to 59 mpg (imp. gal) and reserve came on at 125 miles!!! The tank holds 3.66 gallons. The reserve just comes on really too early. Should go maybe 160-170 miles. Second fill up was 62 mpg with reserve coming at 127 mi. or so. So the problem is not mpg. Just range! Have a enquiry to David Petersen of Bestrestproducts about his PegPacker for carrying extra gas.

What kind of reserve indication do you have ?

A light , or the usual type like the R65 has, the engine starts to stumble ?

A range like that, will definitely make you plan a trip into the western US, a little more challenging !!!!!

That's one of my pet peeves about the little BMW 650s they have now, the little supermotard or what ever.  They're small and look nimble and fun to ride, but even at 70 mpg they don't have any range.  These aren't toys people, they're transportation!

Got rained off a job today,as i was only round the corner from the new Hardley showroom in Leeds i bobbed in for a "free" coffee .The nice lady selling em was very enthusiastic about the new 883 sportsters they had. The tanks looked tiny so i enquired about the range.......about 100 miles came the reply, makes Winnie look good methinks wheres the Triumph showroom ??

Sorry to be away for so long. Bob, the Bonnie has a reserve fuel light that lights up too early as stated so it will be shining away for sometime I gather from the RAT forums. So, I have bought 2 kolpin fuel pack jrs.

And I will design how to mount them later. 2 X 1.5 gallons US should handle any range problems. If those packs are skinny enough they might fit under the soft bags or on the footpeg somehow. Depends how the soft bags I ordered work out...the Motopak ones by a Canadian dealer on Ebay. David Petersen from Bestrestproducts replied that the BMW footpeg packer would be the closest design to the Triumphs. I need to get all the stuff together first for the bonnie before I decide how to load these gas packs and how everything else will go together. Remember LRB is all ready to go!! Thinking very seriously of joining my friend Richard from MI (former owner of my R1100RT dismal failure) on his trip to Alaska. He's on a Harley now so no gravel roads. We would like to hit Redmond Oregon MOA Rally on the way back. LRB might like that trip but the Bonnie handles the mountains. LRB can go to Cape Breton later.... in Sept. Maybe two bikes IS a problem!!! LRB for east and Winnie for west!
