My new Honda......
« on: October 04, 2007, 05:57:58 PM »
Just paid for the new (to me) Honda CB550F Supersport on Ebay. Been looking for one for a while. Only had to pay in the mid $500 range for it. It even comes with an extra set of bodywork. Another cafe bike in the making, just have to make room for it and go all the way to NJ to get it......Dew.

I really liked the looks of that CB 550 Four in the late 70's - even more than its
larger 750cc brother.    I had a friend who had a CB400F, which was a nice
bike too, though I think that the 550 was the "right" balance, IMHO...

Good luck on your trip to get your new ride !    Is this one in that classic brown
metallic flake color ?  How many bikes are in your garage ?

It is the supersport model in orange. The extra bodywork is blue, which is what I will be using. This makes number seven. Two sporties, two airheads, one Royal Enfield, one SR500, and now a Honda.....Dew.

My first bike was a 75 CB550F.  Re-built it raced it once and sold it.  Great fun.  I still have a CB400F (not running) and a CB350F (running).

Enjoy!

My first road bike was a Honda - CB450.  My wife is trying to talk me into buying a 2001 Honda Shadow A.C.E that somebody where she works has for sale.  I'm tempted as it looks very comfortable and I would imagine a 750 would get great fuel economy...

Well guys after a couple of days traveling to NJ to get the bike and many days of cleaning. The bike is looking pretty good. It was in really good shape and just needed a little detailing to get it looking right.  Changed the bodywork from orange to blue, put on clubman bars, cleaned the carb jets, and took off the turn signals. Just ordered a set to TT100 Dunlops yesterday. Going to use an old Avon 1/2 fairing and get a new stock blue paint job with new stock stickers, a little more polishing of the aluminum a new muffler (aftermarket mega) and it will be good to go.....ah lah 70's cafe.....Dew.

That was my first real "big bike", a 1972 Honda CB-450, olive green with and gold and black striping, purchased new in June of 1973 for the (then) whopping sum of $1035.00.   I made two years of payments that nearly killed me, but it was worth every penny.  Loved that bike!!!

I remember lusting after those CB450 DOHC Hondas when I was a kid. They were faster and more reliable than the Triumph 650's of the time. Of course the Triumph guys will probably have something to say about this......Dew.

I saw one of those yesterday at the coast.  It wasn't bad looking.  I have no idea if it's faster than my Triumph as he was just putting through town, and I was in a car anyway.

'70 Bonneville, a 650.  I've owned and ridden it since 1987; back then I couldn't afford car insurance so the bike was it.  Now it's worth about 4 cars like mine so I think I need to spring for comprehensive insurance.  Some day I'll get pictures of it....
