Finally a reprieve from the heat !!!!

Our 'monsoon season ' is upon us here in the southwestern US .

Our usual weather from the west has changed to coming from the southeast, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is now influencing our weather, usually starts in mid July, through mid September .

Got 3 inches, about 8 cm of rain from 7 PM yesterday, through 10 AM today that's about half of our annual rain here in the Phoenix area .

Currently 86 F, 30 C and 71% humidity at 1500 local .

Not a ' dry heat ' today .

Do you recycle the water from your swamp coolers?
Use it to flush your toilets?

Good Lord Bob! How do you do it. My daughter and fiance just moved from Breckenridge CO to Las Vegas and asked for my help. I flew to Denver, rented a box truck and went 10,000 feet up into the mountains to load it. Then drove to Las Vegas and unloaded it in 110 degree temps. The altitude was rough but not nearly as rough as the heat. I will never again complain about how hot it gets in south Georgia again!  [smiley=flamethrowingsmiley.gif]

You get acclimated to it after being here 24 years .

Also, you choose when to ride, now, I restrict my riding to work and back, 11 mile commute each way .

When I go out on my days off, I'm on the road by 0500 and home by 0900 .

We can't wait for ' winter ' to show up here !!!

It is funny how we end up with such opposite seasonal behaviors depending on whether we're in the upper half or the lower half of the country.

Personally, though I don't like triple digit temperatures, I have a much better functioning in the dry Aridzona heat than then steamy Georgia/Florida heat - even when the steamy heat is below 100F

Mike, I agree on that!  I went through Basic Training at Ft. Knox, KY, during early summer (May-Jul) and it was miserable!  When I finished my time in Hell I went to Ft. Huachuca, AZ for technical training and although it was much hotter it didn't feel nearly as bad.

It's been miserable here the last 10 days or so, the dew point temperature has been in the mid 60's to low 70's .

That's about the same you get in the southeast and deep south US this time of year .

Ft. Hoochj Kooch is at 4600 elevation..... snowed a couple times in the morning when I was there. At that altitude the peak temp resides back to tolerable pretty quick in the evenings

I had rotated back from VN (nd of 1968)and they put me with the 337/327th signal Co. It was great. I was a Hard stripe E-5 in a company of specialists...... too much Rank to work, and not enough rank to run anything..... life was good

I would have enjoyed the heat. I finished Basic Training at Ft Jackson, SC (hot, humid) and Uncle Sam applied his twisted logic and sent a kid from the beaches of south FL to Ft Greeley, AK. In the winter. Left 80 degree weather and went to -40 degrees and never saw anything above 0 for four months. Ft. Huachuca sounds like a garden spot after that!

There were some great things in that area once you got over the shock of " I'm in the middle of nowhere"

Bird sanctuaries, deep seated Western history with Tombstone AZ just minutes away. High altitude with deer roaming in your front yard in the mornings. Mining history and still active industry ( circa 1969) and at the time, quaint little places across the border to shop and explore ( that cudda changed a bunch)
