Retribution
« on: September 09, 2017, 10:51:59 PM »
I have been the IT Director for the local law enforcement office for the last year. last Tues I was told my services were no longer needed. Bo notice, no work related issues, just a budgetary decision. The next day I learned that my predecessor had been hired back as a contractor. The local gov't has a 1 year time limit between retiring and being hired as a contractor. Guess what, the 1 year limit has just been met.

Needless to say I am more than pissed. I have hired a solicitor to look into the matter.

My question is this. As IT Director I was privy to all of their secrets. I have a notebook with all the times and dates of all the car camera. body camera and jail camera video of things they don't want seen. Just part of the job but it disturbed me seeing things that shouldn't be allowed to happen.

This state has an open records policy so if a recording is requested it has to be provided. Do I release these times and dates to the public so they can see what their law enforcement is up to?

That was a nice job you had and I'm sure the services you provided would be needed at almost all law enforcement agencies.

If you are one to upset the "apple cart" I don't think your services would be in high demand if at all....... the word gets around in a hurry.

I would talk to your lawyer about it. A good job pays a hell of a lot more than "vengeance", you decide which one is needed more....................

I would not want to mess with a governmental agency .

Especially the police department, if you plan on staying in the area, they could make your life quite miserable .

I learned this with a run in with the Chicago police, I witnessed a single vehicle accident at 4 AM on the way to work .

To make  the story short, the intoxicated driver of the vehicle was the son of a prominant politician in Chicago, the police told me, this never happened, if you push this, you will spend the rest of your life in prison for dealing drugs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

Everything above is probably true, unfortunately doing the right thing against certain groups can make your life miserable.

However, these days there are some protections in some situations for "whistleblowers".  At least legal protections........

If you're already talking to an attorney I'd certainly ask about that.

Thanks guys for letting me vent. All good advice. I know the right thing to do. I've never intentionally burned a bridge behind me and I don't intend to start now, especially with these guys. I know how evil they can be. It seems the only difference between the guys on either side of the bars is a badge.

I will leave it to the lawyers and hope it puts an even bigger dent in their budget.

A lot of private companies also "downsize" and then re-fill positions with cheaper workers or friends.  The last place I worked often would hire a green newb on the cheap, make a seasoned (well paid) worker train them, then find a reason to get rid of the higher paid worker AFTER he had the newbie trained...

Good luck!

Best policy - do not under any circumstances stoop to their level.
