Oil, and all that entails
« on: February 10, 2017, 08:30:43 AM »
Good morning,
Trying to get a feel from the members on "updating" to full synthetic oil for our older machines.
I've read here and on other boards, that many are switching to Valvoline VR1 full synthetic with no adverse affects.
I have been a fan of Castrol GTX 20W50 in all my vehicles for decades, but the drop in ZDDP in that brand has me concerned.
I know this is subjective, but I am curious as to what y'all think and use.
Thanks, Bill

There is a current discussion on oil in the "Off Topic Rants" section.

You should read that. Oil thread appear on a regular basis, at least here, unlike various other BMW discussions groups, the discussion is polite.

The oil you put in your machine is like what brand (and what colour) underpants (or bra) you wear - entirely up to you and not always the result of true rational and dispassionate thinking.

It's a little like which end of a boiled egg do you cut - big or little (notwithstanding the attempts of the efforts of the battery hen egg production cartel to produce eggs that are uniformly ovoid in form.
