Vacation Finally !!!!
« on: October 18, 2015, 01:38:35 PM »
Today is my first day of vacation, go back to work on December 01 . :)

Looks like the weather has cooperated and we're past the 100 F, 38 C, plus temps here .

Lots of work to do on the bikes .

So instead of turning a wrench on 737's, I'll be doing it on BMW's !!!

Doesn't pay as well, but a bit more enjoyable . ;D

Have a good one!  You do your vacations weird.  I get 5 weeks a year but I almost never take a full week off at a stretch.  I don't know if I could stand to go 10 months straight even with weekends and holidays.

Ed, by Labor Day holiday, first week of September, I am ready for time off !!!!!!!! ;D

I've been taking my vacations this way for 31 years and it works for me, it takes me a week at least to get out of work mode, by the end of 6 weeks, I'm ready to go back to work . :)

Got 300 miles, 480 km on the oilhead today felt good to get out on the road been way too long .

The oilhead still amazes me, 66 miles to the gallon of premium fuel  ( 91 octane ) on rural interstate highways with a 75 mph speed limit, not bad for a ' naked '  1150 .

This is with minimal and I mean minimal maintenance on this bike .  ::)

Oil and filter, air filter, flush front and rear brakes and clutch every year,  adjust valves every 30,000 miles, spark plugs every 30,000 miles .

Getting close to turning over 60,000 miles, 97,000 km on the oilhead .

premium fuel  ( 91 octane ).

What do you call "ordinary" fuel?

Reason I ask is that is that here Ordinary Unleaded fuel is 91 octane, then there is E10 Alcohol mix at 92 octane, then "premium" ULP at 94 or 95 octane (depending on brand) and 'High Octane" ULP at 98 octane.

Mind you, 98 is usually around 12 to 15 cents a litre more expensive than 91. I give the R65 an occasional dose of 98, it seems to like it.

87 octane is ' regular ', 89 is midgrade, 91 premium .

We have a different method of representing octane rating here .

In North America , the ' octane ' rating is actually termed the Anti Knock Index, AKI .

RON + MON / 2

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Also, all auto fuel here, has 10% ethanol, can't get away from it, it's added at the refinery and all of he different brand tanker trucks all fill up at the same terminal, individual  branded additives are added to the fuel when it is filling the truck  .

At this time locally, the price difference between 87 and 91 octane, is 19 cents, per US gallon, 3.8 L .

I need to use premium fuel during the hot months, or the BMW's detonate on heavy throttle use, the Guzzi, it doesn't seem to be bothered with high air temps and runs just fine on 87 octane .
