I saw that today on Good Morning Murica. That's a mud/sand/hill climbing tire on the back. Amazing stunt, for sure. Now let's wait for the upcoming epic "FAILS" that will surely follow.

I think over here it used to be Budweiser that sponsored them - whether they officially did it, or if it was unofficially inspired from mass consumption of their beverages - could be either one..
