Hotter than Texas ........
« on: July 19, 2013, 06:35:00 AM »
Well maybe, temperature in my back yard just hit 33c we cope well with Snow Ice and Rain but any advice to survive riding the melting tarmac from our cousins who are used to living in the oven.
Just 8 weeks ago I had 6 ft of snow in the back don't know which is worse.
Lou.... cooler under canvas

33 C, 91 F, that was the temperature when I left for work at 0510 this morning .

Lou, just wait 'til summer gets there !!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It's probably safe to assume that few homes have refrigeration cooling in the UK .

Aircon is very rare in homes. A few work places have it and working in IT I'm one of the lucky ones.

At home I rely on opening the windows early in the morning or late at night. As soon as it's hotter outside than in we shut them again.

I can see you wouldn't have that option when it's 33C at 05.30 in the morning.

Here, you close the house up around the last week of April, first week of May, put the A/C on until around the middle or later part of October .

About like winter in the northern regions .

Right now, the summer temps are much hotter in the northern US of A than in Texas. A balmy 98 degrees F this afternoon during our patio Happy Hour.

Weather Wizards say it may warm up a wee bit by the weekend... Pretty Wife and I plan a Saturday morning breakfast ride-out to the Blue Hangar Cafe on board N'West Regional Airport. Airplanes and mucho motorcycles.

Yep... been in the nineties and up to 100  a few times in New England for as long as my melted brain can remember.  And thanks to the humidity I swear I saw a fly die in midair and then start floating upwards!

As for coping... stick a bowl of ice in front of a fan and plop down in front of it.  That's the old fashioned air conditioner.

Clarkston, Washington in the Pacific Northwest was over 100 F on Tuesday afternoon.  So much for cool temps in this part of the world.  I wore my "Kool Vest" for much of the afternoon on the way in from Dillon, Montana.  It 'works a treat' as our British cousins like to say.

Wet down your head and your shirt and go for a ride!
It will last for maybe 30 minutes.

Pimms and the Ashes are not a bad way to keep cool, I am off to the beach for a week with the Grandkids so I will have one toe in the sea near Harlech and a cold one in hand. May actually get out for a ride today before I go with a bit of luck happy days.

Back from a sumptuous, al fresco breakfast at The Blue Hangar Cafe and it's not even 80F degrees... yet.

Pleasant temps meant lots of aircraft ops and a fine turn out of motorcycles. Pretty Wife recognized a lady riding in on a Harley that is also a member of her Quilt Guild.

Naturally, their conversation segued from airplanes to motorcycles to quilts.  ::)

We are in the middle of a big (for us) heat wave in New Jersey.  Highs have been 95 to 98 degrees F for the past 6 days.  To make it worse, the air conditioning in my office broke three days ago.  Yesterday it was over 85 F in my office, and I had to work late to get some work out.  When I got home, my bedroom was 82 F, even with the AC on all day.

No riding to work in this heat.  It should break in a day or two.
