Fitting shocks to bike?

I recently picked up an r65 which I am bringing back to life. I suspect the shocks are done and want to replace them. Since they are 13" from eye to eye, am I able to use any 13" shock? Are there  differences that would make some shocks unusable even if they are the right size? Any help would be appreciated.

"Any 13" shock?"   Not really. The size of the shock's eye and bushing would be the first thing to check. Also, spring and damping rates vary with the weight of your scooter and riding style. A 13" moped shock might be a real thrill on an R65.  

There was a small discussion here recently regarding R65 shocks and various vendors. I tried the "search engine" but got nada. Your mileage may vary.

Mmmm, Monte is giving good advice! Damping rate, spring stiffness, bushing diameter & length as well as overall length and diameter of the shock all need to be considered. If your shopping 'round for a pair give Dave Quin a call http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/
