'79 R65 Wiring Diagram

My left front light for my emergency flashers is not working.  The turn signal does work.  I suspect a bad connection somewhere.  My Clymer manual wiring diagram does not show an emergency flasher circuit for my bike.  Does anyone have a link to a wiring diagram for this bike which shows the emergency flasher circuit?  Alternatively, can anyone tell me the locations of the connection blocks/locations for this circuit and what colour wires I should be looking for?

The emergency flashers were an optional equipment item.  Unfortunately I never had those on any of my airheads so I cannot tell you what specifically to look for, but there should be an 'extra' relay stowed away under your tank somewhere for this.   Looking through my books, I don't have a schematic showing the optional relay installed either.
I am sure that someone will chime in soon, as there are folks who do have these !

Well I've just scanned my BMW manual today.
And haven't had a chance to go through it for errors in scanning yet. I'll do that tonight, if I'm allowed by "She Who Must Be Obeyed"

But I  have created a separate pdf file with just the electrical schematic in it.
It's 1.1MB in sizeActually I've shrunk it to 273KB), I could reduce it but as the wiring details are quite fine it's one page I don't think would be worth shrinking.
AS for where to put it ??
Any suggestions would be welcome, I don't want to place large file son this server unless the moderators think this is OK this time.
I've tried my personal web space but I seem to be having some difficulties ftping there at the moment.

Otherwise i could email you.

My intention is one big pdf file of the manual on my web space which would be between 10 and 20Mb in size.

Unless you think it would be much better to break it into chapters of smaller file sizes?
Any thoughts.

OK I've managed to ftp it up to my personal website

I had to use dreamweaver as an ftp client, ftpzilla keeps closing the connection.

I've left the actual manual at work.
But looking at the files I have each page appears to have a date on the bottom 7.78 and the blue sheets have alteration 5.82 and are marked 1981

So I'm assuming the page is 1980 and earlier R65 and R45.

Just to make things a bit clearer I've made one more pdf file and it's the first half of the Electrical chapter, (It includes the index, specifications and legend for the schematic) and also the blue amendments.

I think I have the attachment limit set to 256k so it wouldn't allow it to be attached, but you can link all you want.  It would be nice to get it all scanned and then put it in a zip file...

Thanks for posting the diagrams John.  Unfortunately I don't see the emergency flasher circuit there.  I'll see if I can trace it on the bike.  If I can trace it I'll post what I find.

Maybe Rob, or somebody else that has installed one, might chime in if there was any kind of wiring diagram with his OEM flasher kit.  I looked at the late model R100RT wiring diagram as well (my RT has the flashers) and it's not on that one either!

Well I haven't traced out the wiring but I've found the source of the problem.  The hazard switch is located in the centre of the impact plate (or Hub Cap Upper as it's refered to in the parts fiche) and that is what is failing.  Unfortunately that switch costs $100 at the local dealer.  I don't have a part number for it (it's not on the parts fiche) or I woud shop around for the item.  If anyone has a part number for this let me know.

A lot of parts have the part number molded into the item somewhere, take a look at it...

In this case none the numbers that are there were not recognizable as a part number by the dealer.  However it looks like I have solved the problem.  I dis-assembled the switch as far as I could and squirted electronic contact cleaner into the switch.  That solved my problem.  Hopefully this will remain solved.

It might be a good idea to take a meter and identify the switching elements so a sub can be found if it goes out totally.  I remember the '80 320i we had would eat a hazard switch about every two years!
