Further to Robs comment on the Brake fluid thread........
Boyles Law and Charles Law were drilled into me when i was learning how not to maintain Marine Boilers...

Boyles Law describes the relationship between Pressure and volume
( P V = C) assuming no change in temperature

Charles Law describes the relationship between volume and temperature
( V1 T2=V2 T1) assuming no change in pressure

These formula have been around for eons and easy to remember
the worst one i had to do was in Naval Architecture working out the displacement volume of a ship, bear in mind this was before the days of calculators and a mans best friend was his slide rule and his log book(can't spell logarithms).
Calculating the Metacentric height and using the Moorsom system were formulas designed to make students heads explode...

38 years ago when I worked in a drawing office designing chemical plant instrumentation for ICI we used to do vessel volume calculations the easy way by feeding the data into some remote mainframe computer using punched tape and waiting a couple of days for the answer (42) to come back.

A few years later we were able to skip the punched tape and access the main frame via a green screen terminal.

Happy days - used to ride to work on a Z900
