First Ride of 2011
« on: January 01, 2011, 07:00:02 AM »
I got my first ride of the year in, the commute to work .

A bit cold for this low desert dweller, it was 26F/-3C at 0515 .

I'm glad it's only 11 miles/18km to work, otherwise my inadequate riding gear may have forced me into a four wheeler .

This is what I really needed [smiley=flamethrowingsmiley.gif] !!!!

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Had a chance to get out for a 20 miler today.  Brilliant sunshine and lovely blue sky, but a bit windy and rather cold.  One of the things I like to do on New Years Day is to go out to the stable and take the mileage off of all the bikes.  I only rode a little over 6000 miles last year.  Not bad considering that I was laid up with a broken collar bone for almost 3 months.

Hope that a bunch of you also got to take a ride today.

Got in my first ride of the year on a BMWNEF ride. Had a great turn out of almost 90 people and bikes. A lot of GS's (A LOT). Only 3 airheads, my LS, and two R90's. We formed our own little pack within the pack. Ended up being a little over 300 miles for me, about 2/3 of it through National Forest on the FL/GA border. Halfway point was a 100 year old inn that opened just for the club to serve a lunch buffet. After the unusually cold weather we have been having it was a perfect day. High 60's, blue sky and little puffy clouds. What a great start to the year.
Keep your bike in good repair: motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking.
