Not just us then(UK)
How much was the bank bail out.....
How much are they skimming this year.....
How did we get in this hole......
Ah well go ride your bike the world will seem a better place
How much for gas.... 1.10 a litre $10 a gallon enough already

Actually, that was

Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The sense of it is a little different...

True, but the title of the song is "Won't get fooled again."  It has a who lot of other good lines too  -- like "meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

That song was on the 'Who's Next' album, released in 1971, and sadly the lyrics are as true today, as they were almost 40 years ago when it first came out .

Seems I'll be singing the "Blues" in the unemployment line soon. Our once thriving Land Surveying small business is ready to close it's doors after 27 years of operation and service. "Change" has come folks.  I know my pension investments have changed to the tune of over -48%. What the hell are my daughters (16 & 20) going to do?

Those Civil Servant jobs (Municipality & Government) don't look too bad these days, do they?

I sympathize completely.
Over here in the land of the free to pay tax, the rot started with Mrs Thatcher when the masses were persuaded to opt out of government insured schemes to get better returns in the private sector. The labour party when it came to power let Gordon Brown compounded the losses caused by that "sound" advice by taxing pension fund profits, this double whammy means most of us would have done better throwing our money into a hole in the road, If i had put my funds in the lowest interest paying savings account i would have twice as much cheese for the mice.
As for business ive been trading for 25 years i had a heath wobble a couple of years back ive laid everyone off (3) and operating a one man band now with no sign of improvement, if the housing market picks up im thinking of calling it a day, selling up and touring Texas they have some nice trailer parks out there.

Donno about you all, but I'm sure glad I have a vehicle that will take me farther than a Prius on a gallon of gas.  I got a feeling there are going to be a lot fewer gallons around in the not-too-distant future, and they sure as hell won't be cheap.  My bicycle is looking pretty good, too.

The demand for gasoline - and even heating oil/natural gas, is actually quite low in this country compared to a coupl eyears ago.  so much so that our reserves are pretty full again, and the price of oil took a significant drop on Friday.   Exxon-Mobil isn't happy because they didn't make $100B in profit last quarter.

Sorry to hear about your business, Mike V.   I've only been working for my own small business for 5 years now (after Mega-Corp closed us down and shipped our engineering jobs to India ).   It is sometimes a bit of a roller-coaster ride but so far we've been keeping our heads above water - not really growing much either, though.
