Another cell phone accident
« on: November 20, 2009, 10:36:20 AM »

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department

Using a cellphone when driving is quite a serious offence here but people still do it. I'm equally scared of drivers who tinker intently with their aircon, their satnav or their CB radio....just as dangerous I'm sure!

Wasn't long back i had an "incident" with a Nob in a Lexus on the phone fortunately i avoided collision but you see things every day that make you shudder there seems to be little in the way of enforcement on the phone issue.I read the court reports in the local rag (mainly to keep in touch with my relatives !!) i cannot remember the last time i saw someone done for using there phone.

I've seen the photos for several years, now, but I had never heard the story before.

Young mothers with children happily chatting away on their cell phones is what I see every morning on my way to work. Add to this darkness, rain, lots of people on bicycles, roadside work in progress and narrow streets and you begin to hope for a benign god above.

its never going to stop, some people just dont care & never will, the only way these drivers will learn is when they kill one of there loved ones whilst talking & driveing at the same time.....The couple who live next door to me, one is a police officer ( he's a motorcycle cop also) & she is a nurse, i saw her leaving her garage with there 2 young kids talking on her cell phone, i was just gobsmacked, like here's two people who in there line of work see bad bad stuff every day & here she is not a care in the world driving up the road talking on her phone with her kids in the car >:( >:(....some people just dont care

I think that dav is right - until some of these people end up in an accident themselves they will never seem to learn, unfortunately.   Like an alcoholic who won't/can't admit that he has a problem, or else they think that they're somehow superior, and"those cell-phone problems only happen to other people who cannot keep their attentions focused, but I don't have that problem".   Sad.   Hopefully they are nowhere near any of us when the  great realization is thrust upon them.

I upset a taxi driver when i told him to either get off the phone or stop the car and let me out, he thought i was joking till we got to a red light and i promptly exited the car.
Bad enough people on the phone but not when your paying em to drive .

Good for you, Lou !    If I'm paying someone to drive me, I want them to be doing their job.   If they happen to get a radio call from their dispatcher, that's one thing, but chatting up their g/f or b/f or ordering take-out is another.

Story I heard four? (five?) years ago was the biker was doing 150+ mph and blasted through a stop sign or intersection and hit the car.  Either way, I doubt any of the ones involved ever saw it coming.

Having looked at the photo again it may have been staged as a safety stunt, surely the fire brigade would have cut the top off the car to remove the casualties ??? and everything is too "clean".Also you would expect the roof to be bent away from the impact not towards it!!!.If the car had rolled there would be damage to the bonnet(hood) and the headlights ect.

I wouldn't argue that they had to remove the bike to get the bodies out.   :P

It looks like they cleaned things up a little before putting the bike back in, too.

After being the unfortunate victim of a teenage driver talking on the cell phone AND being a Paramedic that has dealt with many accidents involving the same...I would encourage legislation banning the use of cell phones while driving.
I'll attach a photo of my car after being rearended by the kid who was going 70mph...
My driver's seat actually broke in the impact which put me in the back seat (temporarily) as the car was pushed across the road where I then hit a tree...needless to say, I was then thrown into the dashboard. They had to cut me out of the side of the car. Multiple titanium rods in my back...I'm unable to act as a Paramedic anymore...
BUT...I'm now able to ride my '81 R65...my eggshell was temporarily broken.
