Dick, if you get up Dallas-Ft. Worth way stop in and I'll buy you a brew, or two...  What will you be using on the trip, a rental Harley or something else?

Hi Dick

I'm a resident of Arizona, my knowledge of the Great State of Texas is limited, the 'hill country' and the Big Bend National Park, are great rides.

You may want to go to the official website for the State of Texas Tourism Bureau at www.traveltex.com.

You can get about a 200 page guide, that covers just about every town , attraction , fair, and celebration for the  state, for the entire year.

Like they say 'It's Like A Whole Other Country'.

With 7-8 days you got many choices. Which way you plan to head, N/S/E/W?
Is to be one way or return to Tx. Grand Canyon not that far from Tx. Except you have the long ride through nothing - west dessert across TX, NM & AZ. There's Route 66 for a nostalga look @ USA. Here in Utah theres Canyonlands/Monument Valley where the old western/cowboy movies were made. Then going east there's the Ozarks & farther east the Smokies. The west sites of interest are more distant between them. As you may have seen in Yellowstone area.
BTW, what insurance did you go with on your last trip?

I'll bet you would enjoy the Hot Springs, AR and Ozarks Mountain area.  Loads of wonderfully twisty and curvy roads in that area, and not too far from where you'll be heading out of, either!   ;)

The hill country is only a few hours ride from Houston. http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j194/apes_2006/Hills/
In the Houston area I recomend riding Galvaston island and an evening at the Kemah boardwalk.http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/flash_content/flash_content.html
As for the rest of Texas I tend to use this site as a guide. http://www.texastwisted.com/attr/

Thanks for all the tips and info. Much obliged.

Its no longer certain that we will be flying into Houston though 80% probable. Depends pretty much on pricing and if we can get a good deal on a direct flight to Fort Worth for example.

Anyway, the priority for the trip is pure riding enjoyment so we aim to keep off the interstates as they can be a real bore in Texas as we have discovered over the years passing through. We are aiming to cover 350 to 400 miles a day and so 8 days will give us a range of around 3000 miles. The main reason we have chosen Texas is that we are doing this in November. We had considered Florida but decided Texas gives us more scope.

Thanks again.

Dick

Here's another website about motorcycle roads in the US : www.motorcycleroads.us

Give a perspective on the type of road from a bikers point of view.

You might want to fly into DFW as from here you are only a half-days ride from very excellent riding in eastern OK and western AR.

The weather should be highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
