Southern California Fires
« on: October 22, 2007, 04:46:08 PM »
Any members in harms way due to the southern CA. fires ?
I've got a long time friend in the evacuation area for north San  Diego, if things get really out of control there like it did in November, '03, he's headed to stay with me until things quiet down.

Just got off of the phone with my friend, and he's evacuating now, he can see flames on the top of a ridge about 4 miles northeast from his home, and heading right for him.

The only thing that might save his home, is Interstate 15 about 1/2 mile east of him.

He says there is about 2-3 inches of ash in the neighborhood, looks like a fresh snowfall.

Can't see the sun, just an eerie orange/brown color to the sky, he says it's got the feeling of the apocalypse / the end of the world.

He admits that it doesn't look good for having a home when it's over with.

Smoke is so dense that visibility is about 1/4 mile, and aircraft can't get in to drop any water.
The winds are picking up also, gusts to about 30 mph .

I havn't heard from him since last Tuesday afternoon at about 1 pm.

I've tried calling, and don't get his answering machine it just keeps ringing.

So I have no idea, I know there are some areas that are without electrical power still, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see .
