sccoters (vespa's etc)
« on: September 07, 2007, 07:11:28 PM »
There is a scooter rally taking place in Langdale this weekend and this afternoon when mooching round the house/shed clutching various bits of the now completly dismantled Bimbo (the wife was out so it was ideal time to make use of the kitchen sink to clean the vairous bit of the bike in the kitchen sink... Just don't tell her that as she'll start eating the curtains and then get a monk on with me!)

Anyway one of them broke down opposite the house and was looking at it scratching his head, being a frendly sort of bloke I shambled over to see if I could help the misguided fool out. He had to have been a fool to have riden a bloody Vespa 200 from the wrong side of London (300 miles ish) with a popping main fuse that kept killing his two stroke hairdryer. The fix was easy enough once I worked out that the short was caused by the way someone had cut into the live circut to power all the extra horns and lights he had bolted on.

Anyway it occured to me after he had gone (complete with a complementary MAG mebership form) that with all the chrome sh*t he had hanging off his afforementioned motorised hairdryer that he was as bad as some of the Harley crowd for bolting on the shiny stuff. Which got me wondering if the Harley crowd suffer from the same problems of bolloxing the the wiring when hooked by the bolt on goodies kick?

They have to have the dealer install it, or it voids the warranty. ;D

I don't think the sort of crap they have hanging off their scooters is dealer stuff.

Makes you wonder how well they actually handle, some of the folk at the rally had come from as far away as the south coast and Cornwall. Personally I'd hate to ride more than a couple of miles with that much crap hanging over the front wheel.

Geez!!!!   :o

Shades of "Quadrophenia"!!!  I wonder if that scooter's owner is a Mod or a Rocker?

If he was on a scooter he was a "mod". Rockers rode real bikes.......Dew.

I've always been sympathetic to the mods, as I love the Who and I got my motorcycle endorsement  on a Yamaha scooter.

Talk about easy.  If all I did is ride around town I would get another scooter, they are the only truly good city bikes.

But since I have a '70 Bonneville now I have to be a Rocker.  It's the Rules.

I'm a huge Who fan, but I would not been seen dead riding one of those things!

Did you have to mention Quadrophenia John, because now I'm going to have to stick it on as I've got the 'Real me' running round my head.

I never saw that movie.  Tommy was bad enough.

I'll stick with their music.

Speaking of scooters, I've had at least half a dozen scooter riders waving at me while on my commute
this past week.    They seemed so frantic about it, I had to wave back...

And +1 on the Who - one of my favorite bands from my teenage years, and I still have at least a couple
CDs around here somewhere.. 8-)
