Looks like it needs an exorcism !!!!

I bit the bullet yesterday and got a new computer, my other one was 11 years old with Windows XP, Windows 7 or  8 could not be installed on it .

Basic HP computer Windows 8.1 from Office Max, for $300US, couldn't pass that up .

I looked briefly online and saw something about pressing function+F11 when the keyboard was going wonkey and adding numbers to letters and such.  No idea what that does, but sometimes laptops have some funny things bound up in the F keys.

Otherwise, I'd try updating or reflashing the BIOS.  BIOS is kind of like the basic operating system that is there to enable your computer boot up and load the full blown operating system, and it also handles some hardware stuff, like keyboards.

Make sure you know the whole procedure before getting started and don't let it get interrupted.  If you need a bootable CD and can't burn one you might be able to make a bootable ***flash drive (if your computer will let you boot from a USB port)

***When I thought I'd become a computer geek I'd run a small operating system from a flash drive.  I couldn't run an operating system from an external USB hard disk drive, however

I had a faulty test, a new USB keyboard works fine on the laptop. It was the keyboard after all. Now all my typo's are on me LOL

Now to find a repair shop to replace the keyboard, May or may not be cost effective, we shall see.

changing the keyboard on most laptops is a hell of a lot easier than it looks.

First step, on to ebay and find a nice cheap Chinese seller of keyboards for your make/model (I have now bought two keyboards for my Toshiba and aside from the lack of Toshiba part number stickers they are indistinguishable from genuine. Once keyboard arrives, google "remove keyboard from ______- [insert your laptop make/model]". I'll be surprised if the whole exercise costs you much more than $30.

Thanks Tony!

New key board is on it's way from ebay, $19 with free shipping and it's coming from inside my State. Damn thing just prys out with a butter knife.  Thought it was going to be like changing a heater core.

Thanks again for the tip, the next round is on me!
