Picture posting.
« on: April 22, 2014, 09:56:01 AM »
I am having a problem posting pics. I have posted in the past and always figured it out with no problem. Now I seem to have na issue associating the pic and the page( [IMG][IMG} that I am dropping it into.

I searched and found a post explaining the procedure.

1.....Click the insert image icon
2.....this will put the 2 back to back {[IMG} thingies on the page
3......now it says to "navigate" to the file I want to insert, open it and it will drop between the brackets.

When I click on the insert icon and it puts the IMG brackets on the page it seems to me that a drop down screen should appear for me to "navigate" to the desired file. That's not happening. If I open my documents and go to where the file is and click open , it just opens the file on the screen, never inserting the location of the file between the brackets, as I would expect because there is no connection bewteen the file I opened and where I want the darn thing to go.

Have I just gone soft in the brain?   Have I butchered the settings on my Laptop?

Thanks

I never had luck trying that pic post technique either.

I upload my photos to Photobucket http://photobucket.com/ and they are but a click-copy-post away from the R65 forum. No need to add any 'thingys'.

The photo storage site is free -my favorite 4-letter F-word- and allows you to create albums and sub-albums within a specific album. That makes it lots easier for me when I need a specific R65 snap stashed amongst several hundred others. I can find it quickly in albums titled: engine, transmission, ignition, chassis, etc etc.

Also an easy way to attach pics to an email or into your personal web page; as if I know about dat.

As to going soft in the brain, we should best leave that question to you significant other. ::)

I use 2 methods to post images.

1. to upload as an attachment just browse to the file location in your computer to display it in the attachment box. You don't need to add the IMG markers when using this method.

2. If the image is some place other than my own computer I first paste the location of the image into the post, then highlight the URL string  and click on the image icon which puts the IMG markers before and after. That tells the system to "display this URL as a picture".

If there is any trick at all it's making sure to paste the correct URL. The simplest way to do that is to right click an image and select "copy image location" and paste it into your post.

Thanks Monte & Barry............

I tried the Photobucket and it's all different since the last time I was there, no links appear when I hover over the pic, no idea where they put them with their "site upgrade", and no motivation to relearn the site right now. I used to use Photobucket all the time with Ebay and Craigslist.

The only way I could get a pic to appear in a post is to have it on my pc and attach it as a file and do nothing else. If I try to preview the post the file will not appear and it will be dropped as an attachment. I have to attach it and post and cross my fingers. If it will work that way it's all I need ,

thanks guys.

Joe,
Here's an example of posting a picture using a url.

All I did was right click on your picture and select "copy image location" and I then right clicked and pasted it into this post. I then highlighted the URL string and clicked the picture icon to put

Thanks Barry.............. I thought I had tried it that way the other day. But it works today!!! That Beemer semi Cafe seat is what I was trying to post the other day when I ran into problems.

Case closed

Thanks again

PS : with this method I was able to preview without losing the attachment like I did using the "file attachment method
