When you started Firefox for the 1st time it should have given you the opportunity to import all your settings from IE including your favourites which are called bookmarks in Firefox.

For me Firefox is much more sensible than IE.  It's simpler, faster and better laid out.

Some of the designers at Microsoft  these days should be made to stand in the corner.

To import your favorites from I.E. to FF, click on 'File' in the upper L.H. corner and go down to 'Import' and click on that.  It should take you through the steps.

And just to confuse you, here is a link to instructions on how to customize how the top of your browser looks.
I didn't like the latest version of FF (6.0) so I asked around and received this link:

Once you get things running in FireFox then go to add-ons and add no-script. This will by default turn off all scripting. then you can turn on the web sites you personally trust. bank, shopping etc...

I thought it rather sad that FireFox wants to sacrifice the crisp clarity of Ver 3.6 for what I call the fashionable "Toy Town" look of Ver 4. That's the sort of form over function nonsense we have come to expect from Microsoft.  I too will be sticking with 3.6.

If I sound a bit jaded about Microsoft it's because we spent all summer upgrading 500 PC's at school from XP Pro to Windows 7 and the first week of term has been a bit of a nightmare. I firmly believe Microsoft  hold special brain storming meetings to think of new ways to frustrate the user:

"Right colleagues how can we improve the Windows experience" ?

I know we'll move the function to a different menu so they can't find it

Then we'll make them use 2 or 3 mouse clicks to do what they used to be able to do with 1 click.

Then we'll ask them are they sure ?   [smiley=wall.gif]

At least it wasn't Windows Vista!

Too True. I consciously gave that one a miss. It was fairly obvious that it wouldn't last long.

Windows Vista = the world's biggest Beta test.

I don't like I.E, tried Firefox and don't like it.  I have been using Opera as my browser for a number of years.  Coupled with Avast antivirus, I have been pretty safe.  Between the two programs, al lot of bad stuff has been blocked over the years.

I'll add a vote for Avast antivirus. We use the corporate version but the free one is also very good. Not too much overhead on the CPU like some that will have your computer freeze while they update.

So Avast is replacing AVG in the "free anti virus" category?

I am getting ready to install something, as my Norton subscription is due to run out in a few days, and I am still unemployed...

I have used AVG  a few years back but don't have any recent experience. Is it even still available free ? I think it might be time limited. From what I remember avast is at least as good. It has a really excellent management interface for a free version. I tried avast free on a home PC. before buying a 500 user licence for work. I just don't have any problems which is what you want and it also fulfilled my other requirement which was it doesn't totally monopolize low spec PC's like McAfee was doing.
