Hi all, Newbie to the forum and to BMW bike ownership. I've owned an '81 R65 for about a week. Getting used to it nicely, trying to tidy it up a bit to make it run just a bit smoother - some work on the throttle, brakes and pipes - nothing major. Glad to be on the forum, loads of useful info here!

Welcome, lukas8165... Hearty number of your countrymen on board the R65 forum.

If you've been browsing the site, then you're aware of one of our favorite sayings, "No photo? The bike doesn't exist."

Post up a photo when you can... or we might have to send our resident Cowboy Action shootist, Lucky Lou, to track you down, hog tie ya and take a photo shot.  ::)  We love snaps of member's bikes.

Remain calm. R65 on.

Here's some proof :) English weather + my photo skills make for some less than ideal photography, but there's my bike!

The seat cover, those "flat top" Bings and the classic airbox indicate this to be perhaps an earlier than 1981 model...

Post up the chassis VIN number when you get a chance.

A better photo than we sometimes see.  [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Hi and welcome.....Monte is right the bike has ATE master cylinder (round)but what may be Brembo discs ?? which is unusual also only one crossover pipe on the exhaust and them lovely clamshells so its probably 79/80 built easy to find out with the frame number.

Cheltenham is just up the 419 from me in the 'much maligned Swindon Town'.

Looks like someone, i.e. a previous owner, has been changing the bike already.

Welcome.

Minor differences in the pre-81 R65s. There may be a few times you'll want to double-check your parts orders. Still a fine bike.

Not only is he sporting dual discs, he's got the brembo brakes.  That's a good thing.  The ATE's work just fine, but the caliper pistons are not as good and eventually rust up and stick.
